So, the six weeks of chemotherapy and daily radiotherapy was completed yesterday! It did not quite all go according to plan though. The second dose of chemo was delayed for a week due to a low white blood cell count and my naively optimistic attempt to get through it all without a feeding tube did not quite work out. In fact I was admitted to hospital last Tuesday because I just could not keep any fluid or nutrition in me and had lost about 9-10 kilos. A nasogastric feeding tube was fitted, which...
Hello readers!
Sorry been a while since I updated you on progress. Things have been a bit quiet until the last few days so I thought I would do a blog after my trip to London for my second opinion but now I have lots to talk about so war and peace it is....
We have had a busy few days with important dates here, July is a busy month, Mr H and Little Miss H have birthdays within two days of each other. Then on the 22nd we have our wedding anniversary. Usually we enjoy July but this one has been hard...
Started the day by walking with the girls to school & walking the dog at the same time. Then went to the wig shop with my wife & our 2 year old boy. My wife still has a full head of hair at the moment but it is starting to fall out. It was a bit hard for her to try the wigs on cos of her hair underneath. Finally decided on a colour a bit lighter than her own. Also got a couple of headscarfs. She said she'd feel nervous wearing them though cos then she would look like she's got cancer. Having to deal...
Was wondering about an hour ago, how to start this blog. Had the idea to start writing one while waiting & waiting with my wife in clinic, but thought must start it with a funny story, but nothing funny has happened today. Then by chance, I flood the house.
After a long day, my wife says put the bath on for me, so I did. Then while we're talking to our oldest daughter about whether she should go on a school trip or go to the wig shop with her Mum, we forgot about the bath. Finally, at about 10...
For those of you that don't know. I saw my GP 4 weeks ago today on the 10th of June 2015. And after lots of blood tests, ultrasounds and finally a CT scan I was informed by my GP that they had found a 65mm tumour on my Liver and I had hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) . She wrote it down on a piece of paper, told me the next step would be an MRI scan to see if it's spread and even gave me her mobile number as I would have lots of questions once I left
In our lives the next hurdle was...
It was on my Mums birthday, 29th May 2015 that my diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer was confirmed. As soon as I heard the word 'Unfortunately' I knew that I had cancer. Not only did I have cancer, I had aggressive cancer which had spread to my lymph glands. It was like being punched in the face, not once, not twice but three times. The rest of the day was surreal. The next day I was convinced that they had the wrong notes. We all think that these things happen to other people, not to us...
5 out of six weeks of treatment completed, including both doses of chemo. 5 more sessions of radio to go. But tonight is the night my voice finally gave out. Many thanks to all who have called to show support and concern, but for a while at least it looks like the phone is no longer a useful tool.
Every Friday I have a meeting with my review team and they ask me how I am feeling. The most apt answer I felt I could give last Friday was "Like a late nineteenth Century consumptive..." It honestly...
Welcome dear readers.
I am now doing something that I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would do - starting a blog. Unfortunately it is regarding a fight against incurable cancer. I hope that anything that I write provides some comfort/interest/curiosity ? for you. To be honest I do not really know if I am doing this for others. I suspect that in actual fact I am going to be using this so that the incessant voice in my head can be silenced for just a little while.
So, where should I start...
It has been a few days since my most recent chemo session so I thought a short update might be due?
This time the chemotherapy seems to have been just right, I had all the anti sickness medication available that was supposed to be and I for one was extremely grateful for it. It has made all the difference to my mood. I had been worrying, how was I going to physically drag myself through six cycles of what I had already experienced? It was horrendous. The nausea and the sheer pain and fatigue my body...
