Wigs, chemo & Drama

1 minute read time.

Started the day by walking with the girls to school & walking the dog at the same time. Then went to the wig shop with my wife & our 2 year old boy. My wife still has a full head of hair at the moment but it is starting to fall out. It was a bit hard for her to try the wigs on cos of her hair underneath. Finally decided on a colour a bit lighter than her own. Also got a couple of headscarfs. She said she'd feel nervous wearing them though cos then she would look like she's got cancer. Having to deal with the stares from people. I'm hoping she won't become a hermit because of it.

After dropping off the youngest at his Grandad's, we set off to the hospital for the second round of chemo. When she gets called in, the nurses & Docs have a ponder whether to delay for a few days. cos she has a ear infection & could also have a water infection & an infection In the pic line. After about an hour they decide to go ahead, as long as she takes a strong course of antibiotics on top of all the other pills she's taking. If you could pick her up & shake her, she would rattle. The delay means we have to rush through rush hour traffic, so I can make it to our 11 year old's school play.

It made me so proud to hold things together to perform well. Although she did get a little upset, as out of the kids it seems to be affecting her the most. She's a big worrier like her Mum. The play was very good & the children seemed to enjoy themselves while performing too. Straight after, had to go & pick the other girls up from their Auntie's. I could then go home and let my wife sleep the chemo off while I get 5 kids to bed. It's gonna be interesting tomorrow when the oldest lads get home from their school trip.

Hi,  all my best wishes for your family.  I am a terminally ill mum of 4 whose husband has also taken over the childcare so understand entirely what you are going through.  The little victories we have seem so much more special eh? :)
