  • My journey
    Day 4

I'm still in a lot of pain. Self medicating with Ibuprofen and paracetemol. Is there anything else that might do a better job? The main problem is sleeping. Once I wake I find it really difficult to get back to sleep.

So far I've only told very few people about my cancer. I travelled to Yorkshire yesterday to tell my Mum and brother. Mum's 87 and we lost my Father to bowel cancer 7 years ago. I couldn't tell her in the end. I don't know why. I convinced myself that she wouldn't understand and...

    The Sword of Damacles

    It's been a while...

What have we been up to?  Mostly university stuff.  Oh.... and not having any treatment...

I'd like to say that cancer has vacated our lives since the no evidence of disease, but it hasn't.  It is still with us everyday.  Perhaps not every min of every hour but hourly at least.  The Sword of Damacles feeling if you will?

We had been getting back into some form of routine, our new normal,  and I was feeling quite well.

I have been able to be the old me for a while, collect...

    Dad's home

My Dad is now home from being in Hospital for over a week. He met some very nice people in there, Got up to misschief. But he was looked after really well.

Being in there with infection wasn't nice but he got through it, At times it was tough but with the right medication and family and freinds he was soon home. Now in a mini hospital bed with his TV in front of him he's happy, We are all happy to have him home our Dog Molly is also very happy to have her Dad home.

  • A journey through throat cancer
9 Months down the line and feeling good. Am I cured? No, and I have to remember that.

It will soon be a year since I received the conclusive diagnosis, after a biopsy, that I had cancer. Starting in the left tonsil and spreading to two lymph nodes, it was staged at T3 N2B. I had no symptoms. It came to light only because a sore throat had lingered after a cold, causing me to look down my throat with a mirror and notice that my left tonsil - the site of the primary tumour - was much larger than the right one.

I finished my radio- and chemotherapy treatment on 10 July, a date I shall likely never...

    Day 1

Since Christmas I have had a great deal of pain passing stools. A trip to the doctor, an examination and diagnosis of piles. I was prescribed some suppositories. They didn't help, in fact for all the good they did I might has well shoved them up..........An old joke but it still makes me laugh.

Back to the GP who referred me to hospital. This time an examination diagnosed an anal fissure, The treatment was to be a botox injection to the relax the area and allow the fissure to heal. I was looking...

  • Never thought this would happen to us
    Dreadful day today

Today has been the worst since Pete died. It is 5 weeks ago today that he left home in the ambulance. The funeral was 4 days ago. I don't know why but today I woke at 4am, feeling intensely sad. I could not get back to sleep, and I have kept that feeling all day, incredibly sad about everything. The life that Pete has been cheated out of. The loss of our future. The fact that I will grow old without him. He was 8 years older than me, I always thought that I would be alone at some point, but not at...

Hair regrowth - eyesbrows & Crown

Hello - I hope the community is well in spirit and enjoying the arrival of spring colours. I feel vain writing this, and tell myself to keep perspective....yet I find myself continuing to write. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer (grade 3, ER -ve, HER2 +ve) and completed chemo 6 months ago (4 cycles of EC and 4 cycles of Docetaxel/Pertuzumab/Transtuzumab). I lost my eyelashes, eyebrows and hair. Approx 3 months after chemo ended my eyelashes began to regrow and now, 6 months after chemo they are...

    The job lot...

This week the sideline project work I have been doing for Macmillan became rolled into a formal permanent job, that I had built but had now to apply for.

I have been terrified at the thought of not getting my own job.  I had to be interviewed.  How would I tell the suppliers I have worked so hard to build positive and personal relationships with if I wasn’t the right person to continue?

At the same time I was being mock interviewed by candidates for our Case Study department (a helpful thing...
