Day 4

1 minute read time.

I'm still in a lot of pain. Self medicating with Ibuprofen and paracetemol. Is there anything else that might do a better job? The main problem is sleeping. Once I wake I find it really difficult to get back to sleep.

So far I've only told very few people about my cancer. I travelled to Yorkshire yesterday to tell my Mum and brother. Mum's 87 and we lost my Father to bowel cancer 7 years ago. I couldn't tell her in the end. I don't know why. I convinced myself that she wouldn't understand and would obviously fear the worst after my Father's experiences. But it's a bridge I'll eventually have to cross I think. My brother was very understanding and it was a relief to let him know. As big and as old as I am I'll always be his little brother.

Work have been very supportive and have told me to take as much time as I need. I may try to go in tomorrow though.

Things are starting to move. I have my CT scan on Friday and an MRI scan on Saturday. How long does it take to get the treatment options? I imagine every case is different but they seem to be moving things quickly.

I'm starting to think of more questions to ask the medical staff. The answers to some of which I'm not looking forward to. But I have to convince myself that knowledge is positive and that any decisions have to be made with all the available evidence.

Thanks for listening

Hi,  I would go to the GP they should be aware of your diagnosis and they can prescribe you some better pain relief, codeine or morphine if you are really bad.

I got my treatment very quickly after my initial MRI but it can depend hospital to hospital, within a week in my case.

I also asked lots of uncomfortable questions but like you felt the knowledge gave me power.

    Good luck x

    Many thanks Blue Eric,

I took your advice and my GP has prescribed Naproxen and Zapain.

    We'll see how these go.

When I was in pain before treatment started, codeine from the doc was the only piankiller that did it for me. It used to wake me at night too. Also, sitting in a shallow warm bath helped too.
