So that's what shape my skull is!
Well that was a bit of a let down to be honest.  The ever-increasing bald patches were beginning to annoy me, I needed a hat to go out, and even in the garden the risk of sun burn was too much and the fact that we were hoovering every day d...

    Bloody Brexit
No, it's ok, you are in the right blog!     So, someone told me that dark nail varnish was good for chemo patients as it gave better protection from UV light and would protect my nails.  I'm not a nail varnish person, so I started to h...

Chemo side effects - update 23 April
It is now 2 weeks since my last chemo session and some of the side effects are gradually subsiding. My mouth is still yuk but the mouth wash from the hospital and drops (for oral thrush) from my GP are staring to work. The sores are going but my lips...

Cancer & me 35 years on - Vol 11 Good news, bad news

Cancer & me 35 years Vol 11 written next to a sketched portrait of Paul by Willo.

We are back today with the next instalment of Willo’s blog series ‘Cancer & me 35 years on’. Willo is a member of our Community who was diagnosed with Anal cancer in 1986 while living in Zambia and has been sharing her experience of life post diagnosis, as well as her amazing artwork, in her blog series with us since last summer.

So far Willo has covered her experience of moving back to England for treatment, her Brachytherapy and Abdominoperineal Resection and the amazing friends...

  • My battle with triple negative breast cancer
    2 years on

I didn’t realise that it is almost a year since I added anything. This past year has been so weird for everyone. I’ve been so preoccupied with self isolating that haven’t had time to worry about anything else. Being classed as extremely vulnerable has made me realise that cancer doesn’t ever really go away but hopefully remission can go on indefinitely. I have now had both my vaccinations and do feel life is starting to return to normal. My lovely husband has had some heart issues which have been...

    Pre-op assessment
Today I will find out if I am fit for surgery. We had our 2nd vaccination yesterday so I’m feeling a bit off colour. Let’s hope it doesn’t alter their findings. Otherwise I am fairly fit for 70 so I’m optimistic.

    A Sense of Normality
I'm Day 7 of Cycle 2 and, I hesitate to write for fear of tempting fate, I feel “not so bad”.  So Day 4 was horrible, but a friend of mine suggested I think of it as a “taking out the trash day” and I think I can rational...

    Still ok
Still ok but not as well as the previous two days, I think it is mainly the constipation problem that seems to come and go. The catheter for some reason has also started to irritate the end of my penis. I changed my wound dressings today they all see...

    National pet month

National pet month written in white text over a photo of a tabby cat putting their paw against a human's palm in a 'high five' motion.

April is National Pet month and we want to take a moment to talk about the support given. For those who have furry, smooth, big or small animals in your lives, you know how much they can affect your wellbeing. In our Animals are family too forum, we see how much animals mean to you and how they have provided support in different ways.

    6 days after operation
Up until now, I have been wandering around the house and garden for my exercise. That changed yesterday, I did not want to overdo it so kept it down to about a mile. Today I have done about one and a half-mile. I feel fine, the only problem I have is...
