  • Deep sigh!

Today I am going to my granddaughters birthday party and I am worried about what to wear. I can only wear my sports bra for a short while because it irritates the scar so I’ll have to go droopy. Whatever I choose shows the remaining boob so I w...

  • Allergy

I have discovered I am allergic to the cosmopore dressings or should I say, the glue that holds them on. Everywhere they touch is red and itchy. It’s like having the cellulitis back only more spotty. The wound is improving though I have one of ...

  • Cellulitis

Now I have massive swelling and redness so it looks like a new red boob is growing! I have had it drained on Monday and I need to go back this Friday. Went to MEDOC on Saturday night and am now on strong antibiotics for a week. Thank heavens for my d...

  • Results

Luckily there is no spread to nodes so just letrazole and calcium/vitamin D pills. Bone scans. Mammograms yearly for five years.

  • Scar

The drain came out after 11 days and now the fluid is building up inside me! The scar is quite scabby but is apparently fine. Next week is big results day.

  • All done

The mastectomy was done on 14th May (last Friday). I still have the drain in and I had to have 3 replacement bottles cos I trod on the hose and blew the vacuum. It’s now Saturday and still filling. Some SMART nurses say it must come out after 1...

  • Knitted knockers

I’ve been told that these are made of cotton by lovely ladies free to mastectomy ladies. I sent for one. I have a softie provided by my breast care nurse but I am sure it will be very hot in the summer. Flat friends ladies tell me that they mov...

  • Pre-op assessment

Today I will find out if I am fit for surgery. We had our 2nd vaccination yesterday so I’m feeling a bit off colour. Let’s hope it doesn’t alter their findings. Otherwise I am fairly fit for 70 so I’m optimistic.

  • Pre Op check

I never imagined it would be so complicated. I thought they would just remove the breast and that would be that. My brain is spinning after this chat with the breast care nurse. She said I would be in overnight and would come out with a drain in plac...

  • Looking down

Whenever I look down at my breast I try to imagine what they will look like when the left one is gone but I just can’t. How will it feel to only have one breast? I now have a date for surgery, the 14th May but I don’t feel ready.

  • Nurses are so helpful

Went to the surgical meeting on the 6th April and was told I must have a mastectomy because the lump is 9cm and invasive plus a smaller one which is DCIS. The cancer nurse was lovely and I now have many booklets to read through. It’s too much t...

  • From the start

I am going to start on the day I had a recall from my last breast screening at 70. I have never had a recall in all these years. I had another mammogram then two biopsies with ultrasound. Titanium markers were placed. Had to go back next day for a bi...
