    Karen's Catch-Up #1

    Hi All,

Hope you’ll forgive me, I need to get the gist of this down for future reference…

Well in the last blog, I was just going back in for ‘observation’ whilst neutropenic. Straightforward really - a few antibiotics for an unknown infection and my first blood transfusion because haemoglobin was low one day - if anyone knows any B positive types get them to drop a pint or two off in the morning. By the way, I’ve just found out that the Japanese predict personality, romantic...

    About consultaions!!!

When i used to go to hospital appoinmaents with my grandad, I was the only member of family the Haematology and PIU unit staff saw.  I built good relations with them and when i took my grandad for bt's, i would talk in private with the doc or staff nurses about any concerns.  In July when i expressed my concerns about my thoughts of progression of my grandads condition (ie, he was more tired and sleepy, more unstable on his legs, he had blood spots apearing on his skin, sometimes short of breath...

    Seizure

I’m all right. I have more highs than lows, it comes and goes. Walkin’ down the street with aching feet and my antique laptop, in a strop. Started a fit that didn’t fit; it just kinda hung. I didn’t have time for it or to sit on the floor for more so I kept on walking, and talking to myself for good health. One foot in front of the other. What a mother! People stare, in a blur, but I only care about her; my kid in school’s no fool………………...

    Coming Home

    Hi everyone,

It's our last full day today and I really should be packing. Somehow or other we have alot more 'stuff' than we came with... can't blame it on the shopping expedition to the biggest Mall in America either as it didn't materialise. The trip takes about 1 1/2 hours and the bus didn't have a loo so we could not go. Restrooms (American word for loo) have become quite a priority in our lives - we know every one of them within a mile radius of the condo. I worry about becoming a restroom...

    Roll-calls pain and being bolshie?

Hi everyone - now I know I don't blog on here that often, but I do catch up with people at least every other day. But... I too, am missing certain people and wonder if they're ok? I'm frightened to ask about them in case I've missed some bad news, but I don't see how I could have done.

So i suggest a fortnightly roll-call? I'm reading a book about Japanese POW camps, and their obsession with 'Tenko' or roll-call. What do you think, ha ha?

    The main issue with me...

  • Thymoma anyone ?
Slowly back to the daily grind

Spent two days in work this week, and will very gradually ramp things up over the next couple of months. Only catch is I keep thinking I can do more than I actually can ...

I find that I am getting a little breathless again because I am scared to breathe deeply in case it hurts (it used to - not any more though thanks (?!) to 6 litres of cisplatin). Have been advised to take up Yoga to try and fix this - I must have been carrying the condition around for many years as taking shallow breaths has become...
