Hi all
My mum was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer in August with a primary in the duodenum or pancreas. She'd been hospitalised with acute pain in her right side and put on tramadol. She was sent home ok-ish to await appointments with the general surgeon and oncologist. We saw the surgeon who said her cancer was inoperable and chemotherapy pretty pointless on 20th Sep, and while waiting for the oncology appt she was hospitalised again on Friday 1st Oct. She's still in.
She has two...
Why does this happen? Probably because I am 45 and my beloved partner P is 54. We have been together for a wonderful 25 years and never married because we didn't think we could love each other any more if we had a licence. It never bothered me before, not being married, I would just introduce P as my partner. Yet now in hospitals when I am with him, nurses, Docs as they draw the curtains round the bed, look at me and say "Are you his wife?" and I say no and feel like they think I'm shouldn't be there...
So right now Im on Hospital family accommodation in Basingstoke and my mum is on the ward. Its so strange. I have been waiting for this day for months and now its here I want to run away. Mum's big op is on Tuesday and its sixteen hours plus long. Its so surreal. Its a radical treatment called the sugar baker technique that will drain her mucus out of her stomach/abdo/ torso area and then they will apply warm chemo directly into the cavity for one hour and drain that out. I cant say Im not bricking...
Hi All,
I was thinking it is a while since I wrote a blog post, which I guess is because health and treatment-wise there isn't a huge amount to report. But friends who haven't seen me or heard from me for a while will perhaps be glad to know that I'm pretty healthy at the mo - back to ballet, swimming and chasing kids round the park. Back at work for the past couple of weeks too. (In fact, I never got to the stage of being completely signed off - managing a bit of work each week, even...

Hi all
I have not been well since having my last chemo on 22 Sept but things now starting to get better, apart from the fatigue. Had my Planning Session on 8 October and got my tattoos (7 in total). Start R/Therapy on the 18 Oct and this will last for 3 weeks. Not sure what to expect in the way of side effects etc so if anybody has any tips that would be great.
Started to feel a bit weepy yesterday. Not sure why really but my scars, tattoos and sunken area of boob (where tissue was removed) just...
Wow ,I have finished my chemo and am still feeling relatively normal and well.I still have hair(even tho its gone thin) and now have another op to look forward to in the middle of november(as my margins weren't clear) and then 3 wks of radiotherepy and then I shall be there.Time to celebrate and get my life back in order.I have also had to go back to court a few times to do with my divorce so have had a lot of stress there.Still have a couple more court dates to attend ,as my ex-husband is hoping...
This Wednesday, October 13th will be the first ever Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day in the UK. I know breast cancer is huge in the media and gets a lot of press which does at times overshadow other cancer types. Obviously I hope everyone gets the support, care and treatment they deserve but being a SBC sufferer myself this is something I am passionate about. I was approached by Breast Cancer Care as I have done a bit of media work for them in the past and they asked if I would speak to a journalist...
From Mr Bad Fairy
The last post was taken from The Bad Fairy's notes whilst staying at the Sue Ryder Hospice. She insisted on flying home for the day on Thursday so we took Miss and Master Bad Fairy out of school for the afternoon and had a lovely time on a remarkably sunny day.
Sadly The Bad Fairy passed away peacefully in her sleep at 5.15pm the following day (Friday 8th October 2010), she always had great timing! I kissed her fairwell as she slept to start her on her next adventure.
The Bad Fairy...
