Feeling Weepy

Less than one minute read time.

Hi all

I have not been well since having my last chemo on 22 Sept but things now starting to get better, apart from the fatigue.  Had my Planning Session on 8 October and got my tattoos (7 in total).  Start R/Therapy on the 18 Oct and this will last for 3 weeks.  Not sure what to expect in the way of side effects etc so if anybody has any tips that would be great.

Started to feel a bit weepy yesterday.  Not sure why really but my scars, tattoos and sunken area of boob (where tissue was removed) just seem to be there right in my face everytime I undress.  Probably just a phase (one of many we have to go through in this long journey) and will hopefully get better.  Let me know if anybody else went through this.

Going out for Sunday Lunch today so that will be a nice treat.

Hugs to all

    Hi Glenda

I had a mastectomy, I am assuming you had lumpectomy, so I don't know what that's like. I have come to terms with how I look now just see it as me. Chemo was rough at times but I got through it ok with only minor mishaps and one hospital stay along the way. Did feel very down once it finished, last one was on 2 sept, but think I am expecting too much of myself so going to relax and allow my body to recover at it's own pace. I am just in middle of rt and thankfully no side effects as yet, a little tenderness but nothing unbearable. Rt doesn't hurt and is very quick, just tiring with having to go every day.

I wish you well with your treatment and hope all goes well for you. Just remember to give yourself time to recover and allow yourself to feel whatever you feel. It's ok to be angry, fed-up etc and every day is different but you will get there.

    Best wishes

Hi, I have a different type of cancer to you, mine is Kidney cancer but can relate to the comment you made regarding scarring etc. Since last April 2009 I have had my left kidney removed, a liver resection & then RFA treatment to my remaining kidney so when I undress my stomache & now back dont look too pretty & it does get me down at times.

I read a blog from another kidney cancer sufferer who felt the same but she made a comment that made me think of things in a more positive way, every scar that we have from our battle with cancer is a fight won, therefore each one a stepping stone to victory & a big two fingers up to the "C" word.

If I get that disheartening feeling when catching a glimpse of my body whilst undressing I try to remember this!

    Hello Glenda

I had lumpectomy and removal of lymph glands followed by RT.  I was very tired (fatigued?) throughout with a mild depression.  However: RT was OK but my skin prooved to be too sensitive.  I finished treatment end January and I'm still with a flaky itchy yucky skin.  As for lookin at it?  I had a brief look a month after the op and not again until February.  I was applying the lotions and potions with my eyes shut!  And then inspiration struck: got myself a cotton hanky (my late Mum's - all lace and embroidery, the most beautiful think you can imangine), I slapped the cream on it and then on to my breast (what left of it) and then the bra.  A bit of a performance but it made me smile.  Now I can just about see the scars but I still need the creams etc.  As for the depression?  It just went one Monday morning.  I wish I knew how but I don't.  All I know is that on Monday I woke up on a different planet.  I've been a space cadet ever since.  Every now and then I touch mother earth, don't like it very much, have a good cry and off I go to my space travels.

Hope to see you on my travels soon!

All the best with your treatment
