    Brain tumour and spray tans!
Can you believe it?? Mother wants a spray tan!!!!! A bloody spray tan, for gods sake. It seems she now thinks she's entitled to everything I do ( I've only ever had 1 spray tan and that was 3 years ago) but she's adamant she will have one. If that wasn't enough to put up with one of her neighbours rang me to tell me she's asked her to look out for a 'maxi dress' for the summer..God alive she's 83, not that there's anything wrong with being 83 but she's not the sprightliest of 83yr olds and well...

The beginning of my journey of discovery

Like all, I feel a need to "log my journey" and with one blog nearing an end (Move More for Macmillan), I feel the need to keep writing from time to time so I have unearthed what I wrote almost a year ago at the beginning of my journey of discovery.  I must remember the toast story that comes next....and then I am afraid a break until I start my new chapter with the Royal Marsden next week (31st May 2012):  :

So for 5 months the doctor’s say “don’t worry, it’s nothing”....

    Life must go on................

    Evening all.

Well its been a busy and unexpected weekend here...

For those who know i was at the doctors on Friday and managed to get a fit for work note.  So as of tomorrow I am offically working again.  She has signed me for a 2 week phased return, and i have agreed with my boss that 4 hours a day for the first week is fine, and then we will sort the second week.  I was so excited to be going back and getting into some sort of normal routine, if for no other reason than to take my mind of everything...

    It's back ......

I found out on Tuesday that the cancer has returned. I am gutted.

Had MRI and CT routine although did have lower back ache and dull pains in pelvis. Colerectal surgeon said could be nerve endings due to the pelvic exenteration and if continued would scan me. Then suggested I have routine scan as everyone has been focusing on my bowels due the reversal.

Had MRI April and found out suspicious lymph but could possibly be infection, monitor CT scan. Had to wait a few weeks for that and then that cam...

    Brother didn't turn up

Or even ring. Shouldn't be surprised, he's never been Mr Reliable. It's going to be harder for him when she does go though, he'll regret all the times he hasn't been with her.

My other brother died 4 years ago (sudden heart attack). I wish he was here, I really need him now! Only bright side is that when mum does go he'll be waiting for her so I won't worry about what's happening to her, I'll know she's happy with him.

Am really weepy today, need to get...

  • Bummer....!
    Rebel no more strikes again!

I just had a look and it was a month since I wrote my last blog!! Thought I had better update it a bit. Sorry if you know all of this already, just jump to the bottom and have a gin. I sort of want to record it for me... not sure its very funny this one either! I would skip if I was you....And having just bored myself writing it, I would take up that suggestion if i was you! I was going to delete it, but can't be arsed so here it is.

So, scary nurse was right in the end and it did take me another...

District nurse came yesterday but very concerned about pain/pressure sores

It's a vicious circle .... we need mum to lie on her side more to help with the pressure sores (at base of spine) but the pain from the cancer means she lies on her back.

I rang Macmillan for an extra visit 3 weeks ago because I was concerned about pain but she didn't do anything. But GP rang me about something else and I explained to him that the problem was the Macmillan wouldn't increase pain relief cos we weren't getting full dose of tramadol down her. There isn't enough hours in the day...

Basal Cell Carcinoma on my face. The discovery, diognosis and treatment.

I am writing this blog for anyone who is about to have surgery and are worried.

I had a large basal cell carcinoma removed from my temple region of my head 2 weeks ago. The procedure was completely pain free, just stings a bit when the local anaesthetic is administered. Post op I had a black eye for a few days, but survived on the odd over the counter pain killer.

My story starts about 2 years ago when a tiny pimple appeared on the side of my head. I thought nothing of this and just gave it the...
