    Going down hill fast

Dad has been getting worse since last week and it's horrible to watch.

Today we had a meeting with the district nurse and Marie Curie to discuss his care package. The district nurse wanted to reduce the care he was getting, but us and the Marie Curie said that he still needed 24 hour care, She did push for the Marie Curie to cut down their night care from four nights to two. The care team will be in the rest of the time.

She also wanted Dad to consider going into a hospice for a few days so...

    1st Timer!

Well I've set this blog up - so I suppose I ought to get on to posting on it. I am very new to this online community. But since My dads diagnosis on the 2nd April 2013, I've spent a lot of time on here searching and trying to find more information from people who've actually been affected by this awful illness.

I think I am still in a state of shock after dad's diagnosis. The hardest thing is that he's been unwell for about 2 & 1/2 years and its taken until now for it to be identified...

  • My chemotherapy journey
Lowest point ? Or is it!?
    Morning everyone

Well yesterday was day ten of me first cycle. Prior to starting I was told by the doc that my immune system would be at its lowest on day ten, then heads back up the way prior to getting the next cycle.

I don't expect it to be like this throughout the six months, but, I feel really good healthy energetic. Back to the way I was before. I probably didn't realise that I was maybe a wee bit tired at times but that's gone, and I fell "normal" again.

  • Breast Cancer, can I do this...AGAIN
    'It's back'...
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2010 and after further investigations I was told the cancer had spread to my liver and my spine. I spent the remainder of 2010 undergoing treatment. During this time I endured a gruelling 6 months of chemo, a lumpectomy and lymph node removal, liver resection and a month of radiotherapy! I managed to keep a positive mental attitude throughout all of this and that was half the battle! During chemo I only had to take 10 sick days off work. 8 of those...

  • After he has gone.......
    Day 35
Weekends I now dislike, today I have spent most of the day in tears, don't know why I just feel very alone today. Saturdays were always our day to do a bit of retail therapy, lunch out and come home to relax for the afternoon as usually we would have been out on a Friday night. I keep reminding myself that I have very supportive friends but its not the same is it! How on earth people move forward from here is beyond me at the moment.

    im getting my life back

I have been through so much in the last year and know I got through because I had so much support and encouragement from everyone.  I will be one year in remission on my birthday next month I'm still visiting the hospital a lot and working hard to try overcome the mental and physical scars of my cancer journey.  For anyone newly diagnosed I would say don't give up hope try stay calm and don't Google till your head is calm!  Eternally greatful to my medical teams, friends and workmates who...

    Funeral and beyond

Mum's funeral was yesterday and everything went according to plan. It made everything more final, she's really not here any more. Dad is not the man he used to be, his brain tumors are affecting his memory.

Before the funeral we were told that the carers would only be coming in during the night and to make his lunch and tea. Last Friday I went up to find him in the sitting room confused with his finger bleeding and all the upstairs windows open and he had know idea what had happened. The...
