  • Bummer....!
So long and thanks for all the fish

I joined Macmillan when I had just finished my treatment for anal cancer back in 2011. I was a bit lost and didn’t know who I was and at that point whether I had a future or not. They were tracking ‘innumerable’ liver lesions, my lymph nodes and a nodule in my lung as well as the tumour site I had lost my confidence after being positive and silly throughout my treatment and was floundering out of my depth. My friends and family somehow thought great you are better now, back to normal and I wanted...

    Big let down.

Monday 20th October my appointment, no mr Konerue so it looks like a wasted journey. Nurse offers to go and make enquiries.comes back and says, "your psa has gone down but we haven't received results of your mri scan so there is no point in the duty doctor seeing you because he cannot tell me anything" she then made a new appointment for 2nd of November its only a few days away now so no real harm done I suppose. Aint t been very good this last week overdone it with some of the jobs...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
    continued

I really felt the cancer was on the march the week before the neck dissection and spent a lot of time being very anxious. I still feel nauseous everyday which is all part of it I suppose. In fact it has been a weird physical experience for me. I DO NOT have cancer and hubby does. So why do I feel sick every day, why did a huge ulcer appear on the left side of my tongue (same side as hubby's tumour!) why did I get earache at the same time and in the same place as him. Ridiculous. He found it amusing...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
We are hanging on in there - for now.

One thing I hadn't factored into this cancer thing was the complete absence of any time alone. Husband has worked all our married life and with him unable to work since September 10th it had never occurred to me that I would be with him every minute of the day. Hence the lack of blog posts, no time to mull over what's happening to us and no time to report it either. It's not a problem, but just an observation. I like my husband, it's good to have him around, but it's another new thing to get used...

  • A Brand New Me
    Making Friends Through Music

One of the best things about my love of music is all the friends I have made through this shared interest.  I made a new friend earlier this year and I was telling them about my music blog.  My friend asked to be added to my mailing list and often sends comments about the entries.  Recently they asked very nicely if they could be in the blog.  I pointed out that they already had been, several posts back, when I mentioned they recommended some music for me.

They said they hadn’t recognised themselves...

    Lost all my Positivity

I was looking forward to turning 50 in July, they say 50 is the new 40.  4 days after my birthday I got a letter to go for my 1st mammogram.  Within 3 weeks I had had an ulstrasound, biopsy, WLE and SN removal.  People thought I was in denial because this didn't faze me because I had been born with a disability and have had several operations. Went back after 2 weeks expecting to get a start date for my 3 weeks radiotherapy only to be told I need another operation to remove all my lymph nodes as one...

  • Getting my head around it
    24 October

Yesterday was a good day until the evening. Our son came and helped with jobs in the garden that take a lot of lifting and bending. I did the light jobs and the foreman bit. The sun shone and all seemed rosy until our son left. Then my wife had a very severe pain in her right hand that had her crying out and unable to do anything. I had to be her carer for everything, meal, washing, and to bed. We had no idea how to stop her pain but with pills and her favourite drink she finally fell asleep. I found...

  • My Dad.
    day 2.

My dad was diagnosed yesterday with oesophageal cancer. For a few months now he hasnt been able to eat properly and was having aches and pains in his lower back. He now has headaches aswell as being unable to control his left arm and leg properly. His scans are tomorrow and I can only think of the worst.

You never think this will happen to someone you are so close to. People talk about cancer but you never think it will happen to you. I dont know how to support him. Seeing tears in his eyes and...
