  • A journey with my Dad
    Family support

    Well, now I'm grumpy

I gave up a well paid job to look after Dad 2 years ago when he had mobility problems but since September and recent meso diagnosis has needed me for all his care/meals and is housebound.

My brother is retired, doesn't live locally and isn't involved with Dads care but has said he wants to meet with Dads doctors, speak to Dad as he must get a Power of Attourney and he wants to use a friend to pursue legal mattters. It's the way he wants to support us. Dad is still...

  • A Journey
    Jotting down (1)

Called mum again because she's starting a fever again since yesterday. Don’t know what had caused it. She sounds not that bad, or she try to sounds better for me. Told her how my cat behave badly yesterday, made her laugh. I like that.

The information they got from the doctor still unclear and now we still left in a puzzle whether her liver cancer is primary or secondary. She going back next Monday for her appointment, hope my sister can bring back more in-depth information on that issue...

    Day 3 diet and visualisations

Interesting day.  First the regime: lots of fruit and now the visualisations with bone breathing as mentioned in Day 2.  I have extended the bone breathing to include the whole skeleton.  As many will know the human skeleton from museums etc, imagining this is not too difficult.  To the foot-leg-thigh-pelvis breathing I have now added the arms to include the rib cage and spine at the same time; from left hand through forearm and humerus to ribcage and back.  Ditto for the right hand.  Seven times each...

  • Told to spend every minute possible with him
    Some questions
Hi everyone I wondered if anybody can give me some advice please, my father is terminally ill February 2012 my father went to see the doctor in March we had the sad news he had a brain tumour after his operation we found out the words anybody would dread to hear he had a very large tumour on his lung which was cancer he has been so brave in July he asked the most difficult question for any person to have to ask how long the doctors told him 4 months it would be the brain cancer that would take my...

    Diet Day 2

Another good day, too early to be due to my diet attempts.  I'm doing Chinese bone breathing and visualisation as well, as advised by Professor Gearin-Tosh.

Saw my GP today to get him up-to-date since my oncology visits.  He spent more time gazing into his computer screen than looking at me, in order to find answers to some of my questions.  At least that sign outside his door about appointments for 10 minutes and one symptom only has gone!  I met the practice manager while I waited and she was...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
    Steady progress then family tragedy

The surgeon had closed the operation scar in my tummy with metal clips (there were also metal clips inside me but I didn’t learn about those until later). I booked an appointment with my GP nurse, about six weeks later. When I turned up, she asked if I had any medical pliers, which I should have been given by the hospital. Well, I didn’t so had to go back to the ward where I’d recovered from the operation. The nurse was quite pleasant and gentle but she began at the top of the scar, just below my...

  • My BRCA 2 Journey
Less than a week to go. This is real!
Well, with Christmas over and done with, the reality has hit home. I'm having my ovaries removed in less than a week. Can't say I'm looking forward to it but then again who would? Christmas was good. A bit quieter than previous but our family are going through a rough time. My mum is waiting on her referral appointments on top of worrying about her daughters, I'm booked in for my Oopherectomy and have appointments with the surgeons in January for finalising my mastectomy and reconstruction plans...

  • To be a cml surviver after my bone marrow transplant
    The day before
Hi everyone tomorrow is my pre visit to the ward at Sheffield hallamshire. I'm a little nervous but it will be good to where it will all be happening so I can get creaking on getting everything ready, il also see what the rooms are like and hopefully mine as it's only a few weeks away so I can get a idea of what I want to take to make it homely. Not really wanted to think about what questions I will want to ask so I'm going to jot a few down tonight but not to many I want to sleep tonight !!! ...

  • RAI treatment
    RAI for ablation

I am unsure which is the better approach  for radioiodine treatment and remnant ablation. Do you opt for thyroid hormone withdrawal or injections of rTSH? I was initially recommended withdrawal until I mentioned that I knew about injections and then it was left up to me. Do both techniques give similar  elevations of TSH levels? Are both techniques equally as sensitive at detecting residual cancers in subsequent scans. Is one technique superior to the other for ensuring ablation of residual tissue?....

    Trying a diet 1

I've started!  Visited the supermarket today for the week's food.  First time without the sticks (crutches).  Got around OK and met some staff who complimented me on how I was getting along.

Loaded up the trolley with fresh fruits of many kinds and told my wife I'm now off the sugary desserts.  Unfortunately the leaflet on abiraterone says 'don't take grapefruit juice or the fruit itselt as it upsets the absorption of the drug'. (?) Pity because I enjoy both fresh grapefruit and its pressed...
