    Returning to Work

I had so wanted to write in my blog sooner but essentially my week has been work, sleep, work, sleep. I'm really very frustrated that I'm still so tired when I wanted to get on with enjoying what's left of this year.

My first day back on Monday was a bit of a blur. My team, having found out about my diagnosis through the rumour mill instead of from myself, all seemed terrified to speak to me in case I had been bottling up my emotions for the last 5 months and was just waiting for someone...

    Surprised
Well that was a surprise, the dreaded consultation day, i had all sorts of worries and of course being told news no one wants to hear, So with dread i sat in the out patients room and waited for my name to be called to find out the results of my ct scan and tumour markers, Eventually the consultant walked in and ask how much info i wanted to hear, Well to start is it good or bad news? Good news was the reply, my scan show shrinkage but they still visible, and they unsure whether they are active...

    Visit to the day hospice

Where I live we don't have Macmillan nurses.  Instead we have CNS's who are part of the Hospice at Home service.  For the last year or so, I have not seen the need to bother my CNS, although I had met her once or twice.  Then she retired and was replaced.  A couple of weeks ago, I felt that the time had come to make the acquaintance of my new CNS, so I arranged an appointment with her.  She was very kind, patiently listened to my woes and mopped up my tears.  I never normally cry but it felt like...

    Misdiagnosis

On July 27th 2014 my brave Dad lost his fight to Lung Cancer at 55. I am heartbroken, angry, upset, scared, lonely but I am also very passionate about helping others and raising awareness.
I firmly believe if my Dad had been correctly diagnosed at the start of his symptoms he wouldn't have been taken from us so soon.

He was continually sent away from the doctor surgery with antibiotics and told it was maybe a chest infection, pneumonia, or bronchitis. It wasn't until the 4th visit that we decided...

  • Sublingual Salivary Gland Cancer- my journey
Radiotherapy for salivary gland cancer day 4 of 30

Today I encountered the first delay. Sessions were running about an hour late but most people just smiled and jolly along. It can't be helped, we all need to be there, it's not worth stressing out about. I got moved onto a different machine in the end.

Today they stuck sensors onto my eye kids so I had to keep my eyes shut so they could measure what my eyes were getting. Also had a review with a RT nurse and saw a picture of what's being zapped on me- it actually goes higher on my face than...

  • Getting my head around it
    Tomorrow is the day

Had my assessment.  All over in half an hour.  Seen by a nurse who greeted me with "hello David".  So reassuring to be recognised.  Soon home again after an easy drive.  But, I had to take a large dose of dexamethasone at breakfast and another at lunch in preparation for tomorrow.  At home my mind took off again and I soon became hungry as well.  Went out for a short walk to the village hall where there is an amateur art exhibition.  Pictures sent my mind into top gear, I was joking with others...

Radiotherapy day 3 out of 30
Things moved a little quicker today, there was less measuring. The mask seems to Irritate my left eye a little bit which made it quite watery. Also kept wanting to swallow all the time. My tongue has some tingley feelings but I think it was like that before. Also keep Feeling strange odd twinges in my neck but nothing significant. I asked about Caphosol today and was to they didn't do that they did Difflam but someone would talk to me about it tomorrow. Wondered if Denplan might cover...
