I think it's 4 weeks tomorrow that I finished my 6 week course of RT for salivary gland cancer. This week it feels like things are picking up. Firstly I have started to eat real food. When I say real, I'm not sure it would be to everyone's tastes, but I'm moving beyond ensures, and pureed meals.
I have some fork mash able meals from Wiltshire farm foods that I've been eating. I've also had soup with bread rolls ( which is soak for a while in the soup). Yesterday I had a very cheap microwaveable pizza which I cut into cubes and soaked in the soup, which was quite tasty.
I think the steroids have definately helped the swelling in my mouth, which in turn has allowed me to be able to chew a little on the side with teeth. Stuff still doesn't always go down well, but it seems to be getting better a tiny bit each day.
I think I have a bit more energy too because I'm eating more, but I still am finding washing my hair needs a sit down afterwards. I think the side that took most of the zapping still has a few sore bits, but I haven't looked. I did seem to have a new cluster of mouth ulcers yesterday but they were more like blisters and eased up. Maybe something I ate?
My speech seems to be a lot better this week too, which means in trying to talk more, which in turn I think is helping further. I'm not taking any pain killers now, just the steroids and the stomach protecting pill that goes with them. Still small steps, but positive ones.
