Bowel cancer & internal J-pouch

Less than one minute read time.
I have written something previously about the removal of my bowel and having a temporary stoma, but would like anyone's input on how they coped after reversal with the internal J-pouch. Does it cause big problems in terms of being caught short (!!) while out or sleeping ? Does it take long to settle down and be fairly normal. I know that not having a large intestine life will be different and visits to the 'loo' in the beginning will be frequent. But I am worried that I will find it difficult to control. Has anyone got any views on this subject ?? Lyn

I still have a semi-colon, so I really don't know the answer to this.  I suppose that because everyone is different, you will have slightly different reactions to it.  If you haven't had it yet, you can ask the surgeon, or Macmillan nurse.  They should warn you of extreme problems that others have experienced, and basic precautions you can take, how often to empty it/ how to manage it.

Cancer Backup may be able to give you some advice, but just below this reply, there should be others more experienced in this very thing.
