cervical cancer 1b

Less than one minute read time.
Hi Guys, Just wanted to talk. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 1b about 6 weeks ago. After a cone biopsy i have had radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It has not gone smoothly with my white cell count getting low so treatment stops, and getting a very heavy cold i have felt crap. The treatment plan has changed and i am now being offered a hysterectomy or a contiuation of the treatment i have already started. Not sure what to do. Any thoughts. It would really help to hear your points of view. Thanks

Yes the concomittant treatment, bouncing both radio and chemo off you at the same time is lousy.  Are you on Cisplatin?  That wiped the floor with me, and I looked chalk-white (I have had rosy cheeks all my life) and felt like I was struggling with Jupiter's gravity.

What is the actual reason for offering change?  Did the original CT scans reveal that it had not spread elsewhere?  Were they doing chemo as belt and braces?  Hysterectomy option really depends upon what they found.  I was told that the radiotherapy would in any case bring on the menopause (which it did, instantaneously), so I wonder whether you would be wise to opt for that and lessen chance of further problems.

Hopefully they would give you time to recover before further treatment.  Does the swapping treatments mean that you will avoid the need for Internal Brachytherapy?

How are you with work?  Did you manage to work throughout the treatment so far (I most emphatically was NOT able to).

Wishing you all the very best.  Loads of love xxxx Penny
