Utter, utter disgrace that you should have been exposed to such incompetence in a service you have PAID for, in the allegedly 4th richest country in the world.

I am new to this too, as I have just been told I have incurable Stage IV cancer but -get this - they cannot locate the source of it.  My immediate reaction is to instruct everyone I know (particularly blood relatives) to RUN, not walk, to the doctor's if they ever find anything amiss, AND INSIST on scans at the earliest possible date.  We DO have rights; we DO NOT have to put up with so-called experts making us feel as if we are stupid.

Check out the people here -there are some pretty gritty, tough people around who will welcome you fully and make you realise you are not alone.

At the moment, and for years now, obesity is the stick they beat us with.  I smoked for 12 years, and no doctor even hinted that I should consider giving up.  I gave up of my own accord and without any outside  help, except a kind pharmacist who gave me a liquorice root to chew in the early stages.  I put on weight, and the nagging began.  Over the years, the received wisdom is that whatever your symptoms, if you are overweight, that is the cause and the disease.

I had major bowel surgery, and when I got home, I was quite careful for a while, then when I was healed, I carried on doing the things that women do, laundry, shopping library, and gave myself a post op hernia.  The nurse consultant and surgeon check out the weight gain and say they can't operate until I have lost several kilos.  OK, but it wasn't the weight that caused it, and if I have the repair, how do I stop it coming back?

I've discussed this before, so solutions are in hand, but why they hand you over to the Diet Industry when sensible eating is the only successful way to get back.

You have had a terrible experience, and should give serious thought to making a major complaint to your Primary Care Trust.  They are the ones responsible for giving us proper care from our GPs.

Were you referred to the specialist by your GP?  You should get a copy of the referral letter.

Maybe you could consider suing.  I'm not saying you need to go the whole hog, but a solicitor's letter to the PCT may make them take your case seriously.  They commission the Hospital care as well, so it is worth going for.  Then your solicitor would compile your papers and make a case.  Or he would refer you to a personal injury lawyer.

The specialists don't bother with a case unless they think they can win.  Make sure they go for costs as well as the settlement.  You don't want to have to pay your own costs out of the settlement.

    Good luck

I cannot believe what I have just read. That is appalling my heart goes out to you.

I trust when you are feeling up to it, after your chemo, you will take the g.p. and hospital to task. This is just not good enough. I really am lost for words, which is unusual for me!

I wish you all the very best through your chemo. Please keep intouch so that we can support you through it.

    lol and (((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))
