What a difference a day makes...

    Saturday, October 3rd 2009
Andrew had a fairly good night. He was in and out of pain and in and out of sleep. He wakes up mainly to push that pain button.
7:45am Dr Karnes arrives and shakes Andrew's hand, "hello partner". He spent 15 mins telling us about the operation - he is very pleased with the outcome and said that Andrew is a star patient. Yesterday, he gave me a box with the gallstones in it - there are over 50 of them and quite large. No wander Andrew suffered with them but in a way...

    Back again :D

    Tuesday 29th September

Well an hour or so after my last blog, I left a message for the consultant just in case the 4am pain bit hadn't filtered through. He rang straight back and after the usual questions, said he thought it would be a good idea to come in. "Ok,when?" says I "Now" says he - "we need to make sure it's not a pulmonary embolism." "Sh*t" says OH. "I'm not rushing!" say I. So we threw my still unpacked bag back in the car and headed...

Very bad days and even worse days

Today has been one of the even worse variety.  I need to talk to Robert and he's not here.  Friends and family visit  but they don't understand.  Robert was the person who knew me inside out, knew all my faults and still loved me.

I don't think I'll ever have that again and that breaks my heart.

Day of the big OP - Oct 2nd 2009

We were told to arrive at St Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic, at 5:45am. We arrive at 5:30am. It's still dark outside and slightly drizzly. By 6:10am we are in a side room and Andrew is being prepared for surgery. Gown, white stockings, and non-slip slipper socks. People come and go, blood pressure, breathing 'toys' to be used post op to prevent pneumonia. Andrew and I talk about what's ahead. We both know that we are here in America because the doctor here gave us the best option of having a neo bladder...

  • One Day At A Time
    Readjusting

As I write this, my darling is asleep on the sofa. Have spent a lot of time watching him sleep this last week - he caught me doing it the other day and told me it freaked him out!

Not sure how I'm feeling at the moment - tired for sure. Have bought an airbed so we can sleep in the same room still, but at the moment he needs space and room to get comfortable in the double bed.

'We' got discharged from hospital on Tuesday, following an appointment with the head honcho at the oncology unit. It...

After surgery seroma, not sure what to do?

    Hi all,

I had a sentinal node biopsy which led to them finding cancer in one of the three nodes they took out.  a week ago I had an auxiliary node clearance and the fluid build-up was painful and whilst shopping it found it's way out as a fountain which I mopped up with some tissues from my bag.  I went into the breast clinic the next day and they syringed more off (Thursday 1st Oct).  It then started to fill again overnight and I went in again.

My thoughts are that as this seroma fluid...

it must be witty kids day today..

Well even my 3 yr old is getting in on the act.

Here we were sitting watching Jungle Junction and my perceptive little man turns with face covered in toast crumbs and says

"why you keep pressin your booby mummy is it being naughty"

Guess I must be doing that a lot and not even noticing, will have to make a concerted effort to keep my hands away from my boobys and put them to better use lol.

Wind is blowing up a storm here so hopefully washing will dry in no time, have a good day every...

    A Hope Chest for Me

The coughing and hacking and gagging is not so nice.  The cold I have is slowly making its way about my body and I am waiting for it to make its way OUT!  Tootle-oo...bye bye bugs.

Well, honey bought me my three skeins of yarn to finish off my g/f's baby blanket.  The baby's room is blue and brown with a giraffe theme.  Nice.  Since I won't be attending the baby shower I'll have it finished and maled.  It is nice to receive things in the mail.  She and her hubby are the two nicest folks...
