Day -9 Bertiebassetts Bone Marrow Transplant

We arrived at the Beatson to be greeted by lovely staff, room was ready and waiting for Bert. Tea and toast were served to both of us and we were left for a little while to get settled in.

Bloods taken Hickman line checked, cleaned and redressed. Apparently they have never seen a line like it everyone had to come and check it out, as there were concerns that it may not be in the right place.

X-ray and Echo all done. Blood results back Dr not happy as Bert is Neutropenic before he starts his chemo...

    Telgirls dance with cance.....21

Well I havent blogged for a while because have felt a bit rough but have been checking out the blogs on here. So glad that Skipper is on the mend and that Andrew is back with us.

Today was my first appointment with the oncologist and the results of the bone and ct scan. To say I was nervous would be a great under exageration, sitting on the ward waiting I was verging on a full blown panic attack and hubby could see this so just kept up constant distraction remedy and it worked.

    Finally name is...

    Good news after bad.
I have just brought G home from the hospital. He is much better, his kidney function is almost back to normal, just needs a final (we hope), blood test on Thursday. Thank so much to every one who posted me messages of encouragement and support over the past few days. Daffie

    Do I Smell Cookies?

My keyboard has been burning up, not because I am blogging (although I have commented on a few blogs) but because I have been shopping online.  Since I cannot shop out in the world like I enjoy...seeing all the sights and smelling all the smells, I have been doing it in here...lol.  And I have baked a couple of batches of my mothers cookies...something she did every Christmas.

My tree isn't up yet.  We still have to plaster the wall where the roof leaked (by default have new roof now) so we can...

    Results were today...

Firstly, thanks to those for the lovely comments on my last blog :)

    Now for the results...........

The tumours in my chest and neck have 'only' grown slightly.
The one under my arm has grown a little more, and it now 2.5cm.

I've been waiting for test results to check for a 'cell marker' called CD25. I've found out today that I have this cell, which means I have been accepted onto a trial at The Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead - which is along way from us!
    I will...

  • A good book for us all . . .
    A book we can use . . .

I have lost many people in my life to this disease, and I have an uncle and a father-in-law currently battling. I wanted to mention a book that I think offers a lot of hope and very compelling information to those of us affected by cancer. It's actually a short novel I bought online (e-book pdf cost six dollars) and it's called Cave Dan. It is about an American who is out of shape and he has a tumor. Of course it's a serious subject, but the book is actually a really funny satire. The quirky...

    I wasn't drunk honest!

Well on top of everything else I have broken my foot and am now in plaster for the next 3 months.

The Dr in casualty said my bones were probably affected by the steroids I am taking for sickness.

All I did was to come downstairs and on the flat my foot suddenly went CRACK!

    A freak accident!

Just when I was getting used to my treatments knowing what to expect.( No 6 next week, ) I hope my break won't affect the timing.

Oh well these things are sent to try us! Love to All Julie xx

    Hello everyone,

Hi, as cant sleep for painful infected toe, thought I join site. Also waiting 1 hour after taking Antibiotic tablet before can eat.Should have eaten earlier but lost track of time on computer. Need to change the dressing aswell. Is it coincidence or what, but since cancer treatment cuts/grazes dont heal as quick & often become infected. Immune system must be depleted?

Work been very hard lately & has given me lymphodema symptoms back.

There is more to all this than surgery & immediate treatments...
