    Karen's Boxing Day Blether #11

    Boxing Day

As well as broad-spectrum Tazocin, I’ve been on Teicoplanin (twice a day to start, then once a day) to target coagulase-negative staphylococcus. Big name for a little bug but it does kind of roll off the tongue once you’ve worked out how to say it. It's not too bad now that I know I'm staying til Tuesday at least. I can get my mind in gear for that and buy my mobile broadband time and TV etc now! They just don't realise, these life-saving nurses, the momentous decisions that hang on...

Bertiebassett. Stop this year I want to get off

I would like to stop this year here and now. I don't want a new year. We did not think this year could get worse but it did so we don't need a New one.

Christmas was very quiet I managed to get Bert up at 3 in time to go to our daughters for Christmas dinner where he managed a couple of hours and did manage to eat not too bad. He looked exhausted and we were home and he was back in bed by 7 and asleep right away. He slept for all of Boxing day and was awake for a while yesterday. I don...

  • Where there is life there is hope right?
Where there is life there is hope right?

I dont know where to start, but I need to do something to occupy my mind at the moment and after reading so many simuliar stories on this site this is probably the best place for me to start writing. My husband has NSCLC, since Sept he has had to endure months of intestive chemotherapy and radiotheraphy. Its been a long haul, but we have managed to get through it together by being hopeful and optimistic. Following what we have been told to do by the consultant and lung specialist nursesfor the best...

    The end of the story

My gorgeous Sam died on the 10th December.  He had just started another round of daily radiotherapy for 5 days and I think he couldn't face it. On the evening of his first treatment within half an hour of me ordering, as instructed, the last christmas present for his daughter he became confused and seemed to be suffering from the effects of too much medication even though it had not changed.  I hoped he would sleep it off but in the morning Sam was the same.  As he was due to have radiotherapy, and...

    Very mixed feeelings
Haven’t blogged for a while now. I think I had been running on autopilot for the four months, it seems more like years, that G has been having his treatment in Germany. Then, after being told that the tumour is clinically dead, to have him being rushed into hospital with acute kidney failure just when we thought he could look forward to a period of remission, has bought home to me just how fragile his the situation is. He is not cured, and we have no idea how long the remission period will be...
