    The Op

Hi im starting this blog with the Op, when i get round to it ill fill in the diagnoses before it. On Monday i had lumpectomy with full lymph node clearance for breast cancer. The operation went fine. The nightmare then started i went back onto a womans health ward with only 10 beds open in a busy hospital. I spent all night throwing up from morphine then some jumped up registrar pops up at the bottom of my bed 8 in the morning asking if he could discharge me? " oh yes please you prick, yes i do know...

    Acid Reflux

Will it ever end? Sal had a bad day again today with severe acid reflux. Doubled up again. She had told the doc and nurses that she is prone to acid reflux and has a regular prescription of Lansoprazole but they forgot to put it on her drugs sheet and the nurses can't give a drug if it is not on the sheet and it needs a doctor signature to go on the sheet. The upshot was that Sal never got any last night or this morning and this was the result. This afternoon the nurse gave her some regardless and...

    Amazing!

So finally got the results on Monday and was so so scared with every day running up to it, and could not stop the feeling of sickness on the way to the hospital.

Having established that I am apparently my own jinx as everytime I rock up to these damn consultant appointments on my own they throw me 10 steps back into utter despair, I very wisely took a good friend with me. And I think I did the right thing as at last, something seems to be bloody working!!!!

The main tumour on the right side of...

    That's Better

Well the temp and BP are back down and things are looking much better again. What a roller coaster ride this is. The funny thing is that the chemo side-effects seemed OK... just fatigue really. It is the antibiotic that has been the trouble. Looking on the internet (not always a good idea I know!) ciprofloxicin is well known for these kinds of side effects but it is a great antibiotic used to treat Anthrax among other things. But there are alternatives and Sal is now going to try Levofloxicin next...

  • I'm just a Newbie
    Hello ... is anybody there?

I hope I'm doing this right!

Last October 13th I had a full hysterectomy to remove a cancer. Everything went well and I finally went back to work in January looking forward to improving my sickness record by leaps and bounds after a couple of years of continued ill health. (Lots of gastric problems and anaemia - a battery of blood tests, gastroscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, pills and a referral to the occupational health department).

     However ...

In November 2008 I noticed that one side of...

    THAT conversation with the kids

Putting my two youngest to bed tonight, my 4yr old said, 'I'll be sad when I'm grown up because I won't be able to see you anymore'. 'Why's that?' I said. 'Because I want to be a horse rider'. She seems to be thinking that when you grow up, you are either one thing or another, and not, say a Daughter and a horse rider and a Mum etc! So I explained that I would still see her no matter what she was going to be, I pointed out that I see my Mum, her Granny, and that she only lives around the corner....

    Temps and BP Going Up

Well Sal is now on IV Tazocin, an industrial strength antibiotic as her neutrophil count is 0.0! Her temp is still high and BP now high too.

The oncologist is surprise that her count is so low. It doesn't normally go to zero and it is 2-3 days earlier than normal too. He is talking about lowering the doxorubicin dose next time... or even dropping it altogether. Apparently, there are some trials in the USA that suggest that the outcomes of TAC vs TC are similar making the A (Adriamycin or doxorubicin...

    Fed-up and feeling rotten

    Hello to all,

As you know started new meds on Monday and yesterday felt really good the best for quite awhile, didn't sleep much at all as my neck had seemed to spasm and was causing a lot of dicomfort. I was supposed to go for MRI on liver first thing this morning but I felt really poorly. had a headache from hell, cold, clammy felt sick the full works. was obvious couldn't travel 35 miles to hospital so hubby rang to explain. all he got was now you've cancelled at such a late date we'll fit you...

more photo's. SOME GRAPHIC view with caution

My last operation 08/04/10. They used the previous scar from my pelvic clearance in Feb 09, then cut it out and made a new one.

Below is a picture of my skin graft now, nearly 4 years on! It doesn't notice nearly as much as it used to and I feel comfortable not to cover it up as  it doesn't stand out since the redness went.

This is a picture I took immediately after my pelvic clearance that I had in Feb 09 to remove a mass from my pelvic nodes.
