    Wonderful Phone Call

I received a wonderful phone call at 11-0am today from my oncologist. He rang to tell me that my PET scan was clear and that my liver did not take up any of the sugar used in the scan. So it is a cyst afterall and no other hot spots.

He is still referring my scans to a liver specialist to look at. He said that he is probably being over cautious but after the misdiagnosis originally he wanted to be absolutely sure.

He also said that the liver consultant will probably not want to see me or he may...

So, here I am, 2 months after diagnosis

I've been meaning to write a blog ever since my father was diagnosed, but as often happens, things get in the way. Firstly, heres a brief introduction to whats happened so far.

My father was a fit, (fairly) heathly 80 year old. He'd kept active and trim, he only vice being the occasional whisky and travel, mostly on cruises. After the freezing cold winter of 2010, he went, with my mother, on a last minute cheapy cruise around the Canary Islands. Whilst on the ship, he didnt feel too well and...

There’s a vibe in this soup … and there is going radioactive

We now have so much in the way of pain relieving opiate-type ‘meds’ in Cold Comfort Cottage that we could be doing a brisk trade in the village square to replenish the diminished funds.   So I will not be making any joking ‘asides’ about topping up the poisons of your choice.  (But, go on, if you must!)
If the blog has been quiet it is because the writer of our ‘script’ has recently seemed a...

    TELL ME WHY

    Hi

I have always liked this song but it seems apt for many of us who have, have had or know people with cancer.

Please have a listen...maybe you can come back with a song that means something to you at a time when things have seemed unfair or songs that inspire you when you need that feeling that you are not alone.

Maybe if there are enough songs then I can put together a MacMillan "Songs of Inspiration" CD together. Maybe a way to raise some money for the cause.

    Hey

Just needed to get some thoughts down. Looks like only a few short months we are back fighting this stupid disease again. Am just devastated. I cant believe this is happening just whenthings for the first time started to look ok. How on earth r you supposed to cope with this news. Knowing that you r back here again, knowing that the prognosis isnt quite so rosy (dont get me wrong I know its still early and we have loads of options) but still how do you trust those same doctors who said everything...

JUNE 7TH - STUPID PETER! (graphic pics)

    Hi...

7am this morning has the dressing changed. it had been a really bad weekend for dressings all the way back from thursday. tubigrip had pushed the dressing down and all the fucibet out of the  wound. also there were pressure wounds and a nasty blister under one of the bigger pieces of micropore. so today we decided that less was more so the leg did not have a bulge where there would is. today was cooler too so the leg wasnt so hot and everything seemed to stay in place. so this morning was the...

    my mum died today

although i only started to put a few blogs in recently, i thought i would let you all know i really appreciated you support and help

I didnt get my mum to hospital to have her blood transfusion, after talking to her dr i decided with my brother we wanted her to go to hospice.  I did arrange this at 12 lunch time, however i bathed my mum, assisted her to front room, and she died within 10 mins (12.50) 34 days after my dad died.  After 56 years together they were only apart 34 day some comfort in that...

  • My Partner Has Breast Cancer - Our Story
A drop of the Red Stuff

Sal is in hospital all day today receiving 2 units of blood. She has been breathless almost all the time since starting chemo and her Hb count was down to 9 at her last chemo bloods (normal is 12-16!). It is not that unusual for someone on chemo to need red cells, full blood or platelets so it isn't anything to be concerned about... it is just another full day at the hospital for Sal unfortunately.

Each unit takes about 3 hours so I expect her to be finished about 6pm. So far, her Hickman line...
