    19th March 2010 - The Results, not!

The day I had been waiting for came and this time my fiance came with me.  I went for my scans first and there was some confusion over having both a mammogram and ultrasound again as I'd only been booked in for the ultrasound.  The poor nurses ran back and forth and in the end the consultant radiologist made the call that he'd do the ultrasound but I shouldn't have another mammogram so soon.

Once I had the ultrasound it was still an hour before my consultant appointment and the...

    Remission

Well.............. Here's a happier blog post............

Followers will know that I have been away for a few days, for a deserving re-charge of my batteries.

While I was away, Mum had an appointment with the oncologist and they reviewed how the chemo was going.

They said that the cancer in all areas (lung, lymph nodes and adrenal glands) was responding to chemo and actually shrinking! They used the word remission, but I must stress before we get excited that it just means that its under better...

    Karen's Catch-Up #17 - stem cell transplant part 4

So life at home goes something like this

    • First two weeks - mainly in bed. Getting to the toilet takes ages, involves clinging to the walls for support and leaves me knackered. Can't get out of the (Hickman-free!) bath unaided. Still feeling sick - occasionally am sick. Still taking the caphosol just in case for the first week. Stop taking the anti-sickness after 10 days but that was too soon, so started again. am also taking Septrin to hopefully prevent pneumonia setting in - a possible side...

    Karen's Catch-Up #16 - stem cell transplant part 3

So been up since 3.30am and I'm still wide awake and now up and doing something that should have been done ages ago but wasn't because I wrote and 'lost 'it in March and couldn't face writing it again. I've just thought to look in the Recycle Bin...Hope it helps someone...

    Monday February 22nd

So when I said my temperature was normal, I lied J . It hit 38.5 during the night and although it dropped again at the next reading, they weren’t taking any chances and all the old...

The Widow Vibe: And the first lessons in how to accept help.

This one is for my Mac friends - who have been a huge support throughout.

    Eight weeks today.

I have been learning so much.

I have been learning about jack points in cars and that chivalry is alive and well on road-sides of the UK.

I have learned that alternators can sometimes overcharge and can set the engine on fire.  (Did you know that?)

I have been learning that somehow the dusting used to get done in the places I didn’t notice.

But most of all, I have been...

    Dad's diagnosis

Just over a week ago my dad was diagnosed with liver cancer, and told there is nothing that can be done.  He has been referred for palliative care.

The news was a shock.  How can this reach such a point so quickly?  A few weeks ago he complained of stomach pains and thought it might be an ulcer.  He has had liver problems in the past.  Successfully treated I thought.  It turns out that wasn't the case - there was no cure before, only a delay.  His skin quickly turned yellow and his GP surgery referred...

It soon comes around doesn't it??!

    Hi all

On Monday it's my three monthly Onc check up, it only seems like a month since the last one, so this means another routine CT no doubt (but of course that's a good thing).  I know I'm far from being the only one, but I always dread these appointments, it's like having to face up to the reality of what's lurking around my body - thankfully 'under control' at present, waiting to pounce? (If I stop my daily affirmations, taking the happy pills, having Reiki, dancing...
