19th March 2010 - The Results, not!

1 minute read time.

The day I had been waiting for came and this time my fiance came with me.  I went for my scans first and there was some confusion over having both a mammogram and ultrasound again as I'd only been booked in for the ultrasound.  The poor nurses ran back and forth and in the end the consultant radiologist made the call that he'd do the ultrasound but I shouldn't have another mammogram so soon.

Once I had the ultrasound it was still an hour before my consultant appointment and the radiology nurse very kindly took me through to get me seen earlier which she managed (the NHS have their great moments) :)

The consultant advised that the core biopsy results were benign but he didn't look especially happy about it so I didn't really absorb what he said (my fiance clung to this though).  It turned out that the consultant radiologist was concerned about something and was recommending another core biopsy.  This was the last thing I wanted - another 2 week wait!

So, off I went back to the xray dept for an ultrasound guided core biopsy and he took 2 samples - the picture was much clearer than the sonagram.  I also had 2 medical students observing; I felt for the guy as he didn't know where to look!

The breast cancer nurse (BCN) arranged an appointment for me on 31st March due to Easter messing things up for their normal 2 week wait and this time I was to travel to the specialist breast care unit a little further away from home.

The same thing happened to me. My initial biopsy results came back clear, which, of course I felt delighted about, by my consultant said the radiologist wasn't convinced and wanted to do the biopsy with the ultrasound, which took place a week later. I had to wait another week for the results, which, unfortunately were positive.

I have been through all my treatment and finished tamoxifen last September with no return. So far, so good!

I hope it all goes well for you.

    Best wishes, Christine xx

    Hi Mia,

The easy part is over now. But then comes the waiting for the results,it can take along time or a short time depending on your consultant and his Medical team. You and your fiance seem to me to be very close, and you will need eachothers support.

It can be a Long Hard road, and there will be times when you wont see eye to eye, thats when you have to be caring ,loving and understanding. With

eachother. If there are any questions, help or just to chat. This site will provide you with alot of friends suffering from the same type of Cancer and will help

you both to get to know some of the treatments, and

maybe some of the answers. So Welcome to the

    site. Good luck.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xxx

Thanks to both of you for your comments.

Christine - great to hear that you've not had any recurrence (presumably if you were on Tamoxifen that means you are beyond the 5 year survival rate and heading for 10? :)

Sarsfield - I should have made it clear in the about me section perhaps; I've already had a lumpectomy with snb am actually part way through chemo (FEC-T) at the moment.  It's only now that i have gotten around to typing up my breast cancer journey.  Rather than starting from where I am now I wanted to get my history up to put it all in context (and for myself as a record).   Thanks for the support :)

Hi Mia, yes I will be 7 years since diagnosis in December. Actually I had the lump for the best part of a year and put off going to see the doc about it.

When I did go, I went to one of the docs in the surgery who I knew would agree with me, I told him I had a lump which I thought was thickening of the tissues (something I had been diagnosed with many times over the years, at the exact spot my lump appeared). He didn't examine me properly and I left happy. Deep down though I knew what was going on and wish I hadn't left it so long, but all is well to date. I didn't have any lymph node involvement thankfully!

I hope your journey is as successful as mine. Would love to continue reading your story to hear how you are getting on.

    Hi Christine,

7 years, that's great :D  Particularly since you actually delayed going to the doctor - very lucky!  I do think if I had done that I'd have mets; great believer in getting something checked out as soon as possible.

Thanks for sharing and reading :)
