    “I have cancer”

“I have cancer”.  “I am affected by cancer”.  “I have the Big C”.  “I am dying from cancer”.  “I am living with cancer”.  “I got, you know, cancer”.

Doesn’t matter how you say it, it’s pretty shit.  Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit.  And then some.  I can honestly say that it is quite possibly the worst thing to have happened to me in the entire 49 years of my never-ending mid-life crisis except for diabetes, which is shit with...

    Realtin

I am starting this blog to document and connect with others going through a similar experience. Just starting with a short post. I was diagnosed in November having found a lump at beginning of the children’s school break in late oct 2017. I had lumpectomy and node removal in Dec Christmas week.,

I was delighted to get a clear result around surgery and in general that all was fine. When I went to see my oncologist in early Jan I had already decided in my own head that with all being so well I...

Another Milestone, or should I say millstone!

Oh well, I am now at the end of my first week of radiotherapy. I am not sleeping well at all, but that started a night or two before the rads so can’t be blamed! I feel tired, but I think even that is more of an emotional response to getting back onto the cancer train again. I dragged myself through chemo, then had my surgery at the end of January, which went really well. I got the path report, saying the cancer was all gone, no trace left at all! I felt free of it, although I knew in reality that...

    Support in the community

Sorry this is a long one so grab a cuppa!!!  My sis was diagnosed early December 2018 with stomach cancer. Was told that if surgery was her choice due to heart and kidney problems she would probably die on the operating table. So palliative care was started.I am starting this blog 3 months after the initial diagnosis.Sis has been so accepting of the cancer.Early on sis was getting pain relief from very bad arthritis due to the oxynorm pain relief that she said" I know I am dying but I have never felt...

    Neuroendocrine tumour

I was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in October of last year I am 71 and had part of my small bowel and gall bladder removed in  late November it has took me some two months to get back into a routine of doing school runs walking my sons two dogs and pottering on my allotment. But I am doing self injections of lanreotide every 28days which saves trips to the hospital and on my 5th self injection I find not to hard to do,my appetite has returned and have but on 5 kilos since coming out of hospital...

    Day 11 Round 4

I visited my primary care physician regarding meds that had changed or needed changing.Good thing to do. Dropped Amitiza, stopped green tea, dropped Amitryptiline. Was having high heart rate and low bp. Another med added for bm to help that to occur without going so long.

Oncologists are not as up to date on various meds for the two "normal body functions"  troublesome areas I was having.

Glad Round 4 is behind me and I have only two rounds to go. Too much time indoors for...

    Very Nervous

Hi, I feel a bit of a fraud really.  For a while now I have noticed significant differences with my bowl and as I have now reached 60 a test arrived in the post.  At first I was a bit hesitant as I was embarrassed if I'm honest.  Then things began to get even worse so I did it. In less than a week I now have an appointment tomorrow for a consultation prior to a colonoscopy.  I think it's the speed of the appointment which has startled me.  Is this normal procedure?  Really don't want to tell my...

    Pre Radiotherapy

Another few weeks has flown by! I am ‘sort of’ back at work! I love my job and as I work from home, it is a very easy transistion to make. I feel extremely well, both physically and mentally and have good energy levels again. I started my Herceptin injections last week, but was fine, aside from being sick just afterwards, then again a few days in. My Magnesium levels have finally settled down and I can now take sachets as opposed to infusions. I start radiotherapy on Tuesday, for 15 sessions and...

    Should I Go ?

I do not mean to sound selfish in this blog, I more confused with emotions.

At the beginning of 2018 my father was unwell for several weeks, thinking it wasn’t anything serious he went to his doctor to see if there was anything they could prescribe him. They checked him over and suggested the he give blood and urine samples, which he did. When the results came back pointing that there might be something more serious than originally thought. He was sent for several MRI and CT scans, plus more...

  • A Miracle Journey
    Day 9 Round 4

My wbc seems to drop very low, .6 this time, and then takes a long time to rebuild, leaving me very weak. Able still to shower each day though.

All symptoms I have described to the doctor do not seem alarming to him, but I WISH so for a key to building more energy.
