  • The Butterfly Who Flapped Too Hard
    It's been a while

2 months in fact apparently, since my last blog post.

There's been a few things happening health wise - you can see them on my profile if you're interested - but most of the time has been spent sleeping. I'm just SOOOOO tired at the moment, and I'm just not sure why.

Also, TMI moment coming up, I have the worst wind I've ever experienced before. And it's constant. It's to the point where it builds up to proper pain and discomfort, then I have to move around until there's a satisfactory...

  • It's not about me
    9th April

IIts now over a week since the devastating news, and things are moving on. Mum had an endoscopy on Friday, tomorrow she is having a biopsy . Will take about a week for results, but am under no illusions, we're not expecting good news. That's not being a pessimist, I'm just realistic. Cancer in different organs, swelling where lymph nodes are located - can't be anything other than bad news.

Mum's had good days and bad this week, so my emotions have took a battering. I desperately want...

  • It's not about me
    Good Friday

Day one, and it's Good Friday. Well I must say I've had 'gooder' Good Fridays. Mum was admitted to hospital last night, after weeks of feeling sick and unwell. She had a CT scan the previous week, just a routine one , we thought, just to rule things out. But it didn't, it confirmed our worse fear, it was cancer. And so mum's cancer journey began.

I feel so indulgent, writing a blog, after all, it's not about me, is it? It's my dear mum that's ill.  For now though I'm just...

  • 15 years - my story with GIST and Hodgkins
I have to give it a go

Well after what has been a tremendous amount of time without treatment and the tumours staying reasonably stable, I was told a fortnight ago that the tumours, two in particular were on the move again and had grown quite considerably in size from the last scan that I had. I would of understood the news a little better had I not (wrongly) thought that actually I was doing ok (for me that is). So came the usual upset, then anger then acceptance of the situation. And so, tomorrow I start on a new oral...

Round #4 EC finished now 'T' to look forward to....

Round 4 of EC was on Wednesday 28/3. Following day was not bad, touch of heartburn Friday and Saturday however, by Sunday steroids had finished and felt awful. Meltdown once again (however, think I am managing them slightly better now), just felt so, so tired and no energy once again. Spent most of Sunday and Monday laid up on settee sleeping on and off. Tuesday DH back to work and tried to do some housework but again no energy and just took ages doing the slightest thing.

To top it all my darling...

  • Coping with Bladder Cancer
A recurrence of my bladder cancer

At just over a year since my first TURBT operation I had a second cystoscopy.  The first cystoscopy was clear but this one showed that I have a recurrence of bladder cancer with a small tumour in a different part of the bladder, near the exit.  Within two weeks I have undergone a second TURBT operation which took place on 4th April.  I was in hospital overnight and came home yesterday.  So far I have had minimal pain and no difficulty in passing urine.  I am now in the period of waiting for a couple of...

  • 15 years - my story with GIST and Hodgkins
Just ‘Be’ - but do it your way.

After reaching a tipping point after many many years of coping in my own way with this nasty clingon that is cancer, I realised I needed help. I felt lost and just couldn’t see a way through how I was feeling. I went to counselling at my local Macmillan Centre and it has been such a positive experience for me, although I will also admit that it was so much harder and revealing than I had anticipated. Over the weeks I was able to voice some of my most deepest thoughts. There was also a thought that...

    Blip 2 - “10 things not to do as a chemo-buddy”
The source of my ire for this week was going to be you lot.  Yes, you, the people who to my constant surprise really seem to care about me and this whole cancer thing.  My friends.  Having something like this makes you think about the people around you.  A lot.  Probably a lot too much.

And especially ‘those people’ kind enough and/or unemployed enough to spend a variable measure of their and, more importantly, my time to come along to my chemotherapy.  Not theirs.  If it was, I am sure they...

  • Wake me up when April ends
    A few starters for ten

It was the month I was told I had myeloma

It was the month I nearly died post stem cell transplant

It is the month when everything starts to grow -not good when you are in remission from an incurable cancer

It is nearing the end of the football season - and my team is getting relegated

You can’t relax in the evenings because it is sodding light outside which makes you feel you should be out

All sorts of insects start bothering me again

    The garden looks...
