Into the hospital early this morning for baseline functions - hearing test was good so starting from a strong base, and the lung function is strong after years of cycling and rowing, They found a bed in the ward for me at noon, just in time for lunch :-) After that I'm on 2 bags of hydration (6 hours in total) to be followed by 2 bags of chemo later tonight, and then back onto hydration. Hopefully that means I'll sleep through much of it, having taken the anti-emetic. I didn't get too much sleep...
With the Oxyplatin being reduced from 230 to 170 because of the concern over the possibility of vertigo causing central nervous system damage, I must admit it has left me feeling a lot less tired and slightly more energetic that the first. I stopped taking the cyclizine last Friday, to be able to assess, if possible whether it IS directly related to the chemo, or just a coincidental additional problem. I still cannot sleep horizontally, so spend all night propped up with a large amount of pillows...
The hospital rang the day after clinic to say that the consultant would ideally like to start the injections asap but that my husband could choose whether to wait till after Christmas. We discussed this together and he wanted to start straight away. Quite honestly he has been so poorly it is probably for the best. We will be having a nice family day this Sunday when our grandson is coming up from London with his mum and we will open presents, so treatment will start at 10 am on Monday morning. We...
Well after working on Macmillan's triathlon programme for the past eighteen months I felt it was about time I compete in a full one myself. I have competed in teams before, completed half marathons and cycling events but like many the swimming aspect of a triathlon, which hasn't neccessarily put me off, but it hasn't encouraged me to enter either. It's quite ridiculously really as I can swim albeit not very well. Lack of technique leaves me exhausted after two lengths of pool let alone having to...

I know this is a very sensitive subject but at the time of going to press I am living in a free country where it is still possible( just about) to express MY views. I was brought up a Catholic, but as soon as I was able to speak my mind and get away with it I stopped going to church. I used all the excuses I could think of but basically I just couldn't be bothered and wasn't sure there was such a thing as God. Yet all my life I have never been brave enough to deny his existance completly,and...
I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I have to have mastectomy in January and then chemo starts afterwards. My life has turned upside down in a matter of days, I'm terrified and can't stop thinking the worse deep inside despite putting on a brave face for my baby girl...Be great to talk to people in similar situ?
I am new to this "Cancer Journey" as it seems to be called, felt I needed advice and found website.
I am a 38 yr old mum of 2 aged 12 and 9. All feels like it has happened very quickly. Went for colonoscopy on 2nd Nov and they found bowel cancer, had c.t scan and it showed up no evidence of spread to lungs or liver (which I'm told is the first place it likes to travel).
Went in for op o 21st Nov (so recovering at home at mo) to remove tumour, got all my results last Friday and came...
