Continuing with the story,when I was transferred to the new ward I was on a few drips one being a nutrition drip. The wards were quite possessive of their equipment and the nutrition bag was shut off while it was transferred to the new ward's pump and stand, same with the morphine. The alarm to alert the staff that there was a flow problem went off on both pumps a couple of times and a nurse came in and hit the snooze button before checking and finding that they had forgotten to open the valves again...
I started having problems swallowing some foods probably in January,February this year so just avoided them. Being self employed it was easy to convince myself and my wife that I was too busy to take time off to go to the doctors. As swallowing became more difficult and the weight loss too obvious I finally went in mid May. When I told the doctor my symptoms he said that it was just down to my age (57). He started to draw small squares of how large I should cut meat and reminded me to chew 30 times...
Sorry but just using this as a chance to let off a bit of steam.
I am so tired! And I've completely lost my sense of taste. Even water tastes odd! Anyone else found that.
Pins and needles in my hands and feet are really bad. I find it difficult to get out of bed in the mornings sometimes the pain is so bad.
The only time I seem to get any relief is in a hot bath.
Keep having to tell myself it could all be a lot worse
Poor Ned, he has had such a difficult couple of days.
Yesterday his head started to hurt. We weren't sure (still aren't) if the issue lies in the recent medication change, or if this is simply a very bad migraine (he has struggled with these his whole life). He spent all day yesterday in bed, and only managed to eat a small portion of ravioli (half a tin).
Today we had an appointment at the hospital, with the swallowing expert, nutritionist and Macmillan keyworker. Ned was no better than...
Monday June 9th 2014 was a day I will never forget.
Mum had gone through the menopause several years earlier, when she started to experience vaginal bleeding. She wasn't overly concerned, her father had passed away recently and she put it down to stress or infection or possibly a cyst, but nothing sinister. She went to the GP and he referred her to a gynaecologist. The appointment came through quickly, it was for a Friday and was the day of my Grandfathers funeral. My husband has prostate cancer now for 13 yrs would love to hear from anyone who suffers from sweats due to having Zolidex implants my hubby is on paracetamol tramadol and oromorph for pain which helps to keep his pain under control its these dredded sweats that give him most trouble anyone any tips?
Brother in law (47) strong fit an active man diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week . Sister in law ,whole family totally devasted by this blow. It has spread to liver and lungs. Worst of all is the constant pain and sleep deprivation. Pain relief is oramorph and pregabalin but is not helping . Any thoughts or advise please ?
We knew it was going to be a cancer diagnosis before we got to the hospital 3 days ago. After CT scans, MRI scans and a biopsy, and knowing that nearly everything else had been ruled out, it wasn't really a matter of "is it Cancer?" but more a question of how 'bad'. That, however, didn't stop the whole world spinning around me as the specialist said that word to us... "cancer".

Three days later, my world is still spinning. I have calm moments...
My poor Father in law was diagnosed with pleural Mesothelioma over 2 years ago but has now reached a terminal phase . He is now suffering greatly with pain and dramatic weight loss. He spends much of his time in bed and is having difficulty swallowing so is now dehydrated and has developed an acute confusional state possible secondary to a biochemical imbalance . He is being cared for at home by his wife with minimal support. Of my many concerns it is very distressing to see him suffer so much and...
Just to update that I am being discharged...just waiting for meds as usual. The appointment was ok, the radio therapy process was explained to me and was nothing I hadn't already learnt. I was shocked to hear that there is a 1 in 3 chance of reoccurrence of my sarcoma type without radio therapy and 1 in 10 after radio therapy which makes me take the cancer more seriously....if that makes sense! Of course I'm scared as don't want to go through this again, but my discharge from hospital has made me...
