    A Family Affair, Part 2

By the end of November 2012 we had a date to go and see the specialist. My daughter by now had a number of lumps around the neck area and the back of her head and of course the painful lump on the back of her head was getting bigger.

All four of us attended the first few appointments until our eldest couldn't cope with it and decided not to come. We initially saw a lady surgeon who was very blunt with my daughter's prognosis, not that this was a bad thing. We attended the Marsden for a PET scan which...

  • Stop this ride....I want to get off !!!
    Back home and feeling good.

    Thursday 20h January 2017

Well I'm home after ten days away at my daughters, I am missing my grandson so, so much but I feel very happy that he's settled and my daughter is coping really well and enjoying being a mum. She needed me there at that time and I got there, even with all this madness going on I was there and I enjoyed every single second.

We did normal things, we went shopping with the baby, went to cafes, we laughed a lot and cried a little and reminisced together, precious...

    Date for surgery

I had a meeting with my colorectal surgeon on Tuesday. Good and bad news (as always). My chemotherapy, a combination of Folfox and Cetuximab, has had excellent results on the tumours in my liver but have not been as beneficial on the tumours in my bowel. They have shrunk but not to the same extent.

Anyway, due to the positioning of the tumours in my bowel (they’re quite a distance apart) and due to family history of my Dad dying of bowel cancer I have been recommended to have a pan-proctocolectomy...

    A Family affair, part 1

Our story started in 2012 when my 14 year old daughter came to me complaining that a lump on the crown of her head was causing her problems. When I looked at it I thought 'what the hell is that'. I made an appointment at the doctors. As soon as the doctor saw the lump she referred us to the hospital. After an initial consultation the surgeon said he thought it may be some kind of fungal infection but would like to remove the lump and send it to pathology. After a few weeks the lump was removed in...

    Hopes and fears

Never checked my breasts regularly but as I had gained a few pounds decided to look at myself in mirror in just my underwear . As I breathed in hoping to look slimmer I noticed a dimpling effect under my nipple. I was aware this was a sign of breast cancer so checked for a lump. I detected a small lump and went to docs who then referred me to breast clinic where I had a mammogram, ultra sound and biopsy. I was told the same day that it looked cancerous and to prepare for bad news. Whilst waiting on...

  • My beautiful Mom
    My mom

    Hi,

This is my first ever post. My mom received the news that she has stage 3 breast cancer yesterday after a check up on December 22.

I don't know how I feel, I am angry, confused and scared. I will of course stay positive, we are strong,  it's 2017 and she will get the best possible treatment.  She is only 48 and has an exemplary lifestyle so every chance of being fine.

My question is,  all be it self centered, how can I help her? What do I do, say, not say? I am...

  • Dad's Journey
    Day 1

My first blog about my dad Michael. For 6 months he has been serious pain. Stomach pain, nausea, extreme weight loss. 3 stone in 6 months. Monday the 15/01/2017 rushed back into hospital with seriously high potassium levels. Today my worse fears confirmed....cancer cells in his pancreas. An appointment with an oncologist and pancreas specialist tomorrow. All the symptoms over the past 6 months pointing to cancer.cancer that horrible word. Not just that but my mum also suffers with M.S and dementia...

  • A Biker's Cancer Vlog
    First ever vlog!

So, this year we had planned to do a vlog about motorcycles. Inviting people to follow me as I review new bikes and travel the country.
Sadly, throat cancer has put the kibosh on that, for the time being! Determined to find a positive I decided to document a different journey as I undergo Chemo and Radiotherapy treatment.

The first episode can be seen here: https://youtu.be/8xonFizzXYY
We will have a chance to talk to experts soon, so if you've a question you think we should ask, please let me know...

  • Secondary Breast Cancer - but feeling healthy.. guilty and lonely - why??
    2nd Post!

Hi All - I'm back writing again.. tomorrow is the dreaded 4 month MRI. That amazing but naughty bit of machinery that looks inside and finds bad things!! I am sooooo grateful to whoever, well, invented it - but the fear that it instils? - what it can see that I can't or can't feel just scares the life out of me. But.. its a lie down for an hour with some music (I always choose the 'happy' music - its really good) and it means that if there is, god forbid, something there it will be found - and I...

  • Mums the word
    Blue Monday

Today is apparently blue Monday that one day in the year when a lot of people feel down because it's the end of Christmas, people have overspent and the weathers horrible. I used to worry about stuff like that too. Until I realised that small things that happen in life really aren't worth worrying about.

But Monday hasn't been blue for me for the above reasons this year. It's blue because I'm struggling to come to terms with my Mums diagnosis. I keep a brave face on for Mum and the rest...
