I swear, if one more medical professional says something along the lines of the title of this to me, then I may just open my mouth and scream at them long and hard.
So, I've always been bigger than my peers both in height and width. Looking back at pictures of me, it's mostly my build that does it as I am 5' 10", with a 63cm circumference head, and really broad shoulders. I always felt bigger than everyone I was in class with, and of course the kids at school liked to call me fat - and I believed...
Debbie, our wonderful 'chef to ostomates' is back today with not one, but two delicious spaghetti recipes. All of Debbie’s recipes are, of course, designed with Ostomates in mind and in case you’ve missed any of her recipes to date, you can find them all in our Ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support group here. So why not put an apron on and get cooking!
Enjoy…
Here are two recipes with pasta, a failsafe for me when I need to thicken my stoma output. I love to have mushrooms...
I hear voices, I have heard voices since a child. These are not internal voices in my head, these are external voices, as if someone is just behind me or within the same room as me, but they can't be seen, just heard. As a child they frightened me, I was afraid to be alone or go to bed; I was raised in a very religious household so voices that I said I heard were just accepted as spirit; basically I was told it was just spirits (of the dead) that I could hear & that spirits wouldn't hurt me;...
I awake with anxiety, I can't control it, it controls me; often I'm disappointed that I'm awake, because, I have a far better time whilst I'm asleep. Awake, I have to acknowledge all my fears, doubts & worries & I spend the day trying to run away from them but they are running with me.
You can't run from your problems when your problems are you!
Physical & mental illnesses challenge you constantly, they are with you always & quite often remind you of what you can't do...
Okay . . . so for anyone who has been suffering the wait with me in my recent blog posts, for my husband's MRI results . . . here's the latest.
Last night we were STILL waiting for the results from this past Tuesday's MRI of my husband's left knee. We were pretty sure the results were going to be good news, as it was taking so long to get them; but one never knows, does one? We've had it go both ways in the past . . . thinking no news was good news but then finding out, "Not so much...
Here on the Community News Blog we want to showcase just how much support, friendship and kindness is shared on this site every single day. To try and shine a light on this we are starting a new series called ‘what the Community means to me…’ which looks at some of our member’s stories, how they came to find the Community and what it means to them to be on the site. In our first volume today tvman shares his story, why not take a moment to read through?
Tvman about...
First, a bit of background. I have a liposarcoma in my mesentery. I am 62. I am a retired doctor. They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Believe me, a lot of knowledge is a terrifying thing in this situation.
I had surgery two years ago. It had taken 3 months from my feeling a mass in my abdomen to having surgery. I went from one clinic to the next and one test to the next. At the time of surgery no one had any idea what it was that was being removed. It felt like The Alien. At times I...
Since my last blog post, we have had a couple of developments I'd like to share.
Terry's limp/knee pain continues to come and go . . . and the results of his bone density test DID reveal some troubling osteopenia he is now supposed to take care of by doubling up on his Vitamin D and consume 1,200 mg of calcium a day. They suggested supplements, but we decided to try and get that in him with nutritional changes, rather than add 1,200 mg of calcium in the form of a supplement, in addition...
Don’t waste time!
I’m sure we’re not consciously doing that but there’s a lot of life lessons from the Stoic philosophy of the ancient Greeks that I think we can apply just as much to a life being lived with a serious illness as one that’s illness free. It’s useless to wish things in the world were different, some things we can’t change, and that includes living with our fears. But this isn’t meant to be a downbeat blog, quite the opposite! Focus on...
When you are down & feeling low, your feelings can become extra sensitive. Your emotional senses are heightened & you can feel deeply hurt by what others may view as something very trivial. A single comment that may not have bothered you before may now feel like a huge personal attack. There are some horrid, insensitive people out there who can be downright nasty, but even the 'good' people can hurt your feelings without them even realising it.
I'm an empath & very sensitive by nature...
