Today is ward round day so my partner should be seeing his consultant to find out whether he is going to start the Stem Cell Transplant process. Very fortunately, my partner's sister is a perfect match however she will need to take drugs to get her ready to donate so we are all on tenterhooks. Crucially it depends on whether he is now in remission (crossing everything, hope so!).
Off to watch my son in his Sports Day, he's quite nervous as there are house points involved and he's worried about...
Very happy to have been called by the Oncology Department today booking my appointment with the Oncologist. It will be on Thursday afternoon in MK. Half an hour to discuss treatment "options" (not sure that much will be optional when it comes down to it!).
I haven't posted for a while but thought I would share some news that I hope will give encouragement to those who, like my husband, cannot have the surgery (see my earlier blogs/posts). It's a year this month since diagnosis.
Radical radiochemo finished end this Feb & a subsequent CT was unable to define heavy radio scarring/inflammation from a tumour. Last Friday a camera-down-throat job (gastroscopy) was done (cos I fought for it!!!): this showed that while there is still evidence of...
Yesterday's path results were good with no spread and clear margins. Now need to move on to the next stages. There might be some drug treatment but that is a discussion to be had. At least I'm clear at the moment and only need to have 6 monthly scans for now.
Surgery recovery is going well even if it is frustrating and boring! Day at a time, its incrediable to think I've come this far when I think what I was like coming out of hospital!
Well we have started treatment. First radio wasnt so bad physically, not sure how i will be feeling after 6 weeks of this but we will see. Have first chemo tomorrow.Just feeling totally overwhelmed right now. The reality of it all is scary. Till now I guess I have protected my brain from really facing the reality of the situation. I know I have been worried and all that, but sitting there yesterday waiting for radio was very upsetting. Looking at some of the other patients who looked so sick, knowing...
Hello to all, been in a lot of pain recently, new chest pain right in the middle of my sternum, feels very deep in my chest but also tender to touch.
Saw oncologist today and he says it could be my bone disease or it could be a side effect to the biphosphonate Ibandronic Acid as the pain started about the same time as I started the new drug.
So I have a week not taking it and see if the pain gets better, if it does then this means I can't take any biphosphonates at all. This is not good cause the...
To results day, but I am sticking to all your advice and keeping myself positive.
But many questions run through my head...
What if I need Chemo? Is it painful? Will I be able to have children in the future if I needed Chemo? Will this affect my friends my family?
Its still all a blur to me and what with losing my Uncle to liver cancer a few months back, this has very much shocked the family. I feel like they have to go through the worries again. I don't know why I keep blaming myself, I just wish...
Hi, not been on here since September since they changed the website. My password no longer worked and I couldn't get access.
My Dad's AML returned in March. Just wasn't feeling great. Had a bad cough and his ears were blocked, and he went deaf. A quick blood test showed it was back after 9 months remission. He has now has further chemo and is back in remission, but has been told that his remissions will get shorter each time, so he really needs to have a BMT. My aunt is a perfect match, so hopefully...
Here is a picture from the weekend. I realised it had been quiet for a while and the youngest was not in sight any more. I discovered S in her bedroom covered in sudocrem (nappy rash cream). She had a great time lathering it on as if it were factor 50 suncream. It is not easy to wash off so it was straight into the bath with her, despite her attempts to wash her own hands!
After my blog post last week I had another chat with the colorectal nurse. She was very reassuring but let me know that I...
Hi everyone its been a long time since I last blogged but today feels like a good day. Ive caught up with site news and am so glad to see that some of you have happy news to share. Im afraid i'm not quite ready to be of much use to any of you and still really struggle with this horrible new life I am forced to live. Please know that though I don't comment you are all very much in my thoughts. Its been 3 1/2 months since Joe died and not a single minute of the day passes when I don't think about...
