Bone marrow

Less than one minute read time.

Hi, not been on here since September since they changed the website. My password no longer worked and I couldn't get access.

My Dad's AML returned in March. Just wasn't feeling great. Had a bad cough and his ears were blocked, and he went deaf. A quick blood test showed it was back after 9 months remission. He has now has further chemo and is back in remission, but has been told that his remissions will get shorter each time, so he really needs to have a BMT. My aunt is a perfect match, so hopefully it will go ahead in August. Been told that he has a 30% chance of surviving the BMT! or a year at most left without it.

    Hey Dolly,

Saw from your other blog that you're dad is treated in the Beatson.  I've just been 'released' from their transplant ward.  What I had was an auto stem cell transplant though so not the same.  However its the same ward and I have to say the doctors are amazing, the nursing staff will do ANYTHING for you.  It isn't pleasant obviously but they do everything they can to make things easier for the patient and the family.  If you're coming from far there is also a flat in the hospital a relative can stay in.

Hope this reassures you or helps in some way, if not disregard it.  If you want to know anything about the ward or anything please let me know if I can help.lx
