    Signing Off I guess

My beloved husband died on 15 August 2010.  He fought like a tiger and we were so proud of him.  The day before he died we got married.  We had a lovely day, he found it quite tiring but I know he had a lovely day and enjoyed seeing our friends and family all together.  The next morning he started to deteriorate very quickly.  We were warned that this could happen but thought it meant over a few days, not 12 hours.

I don't want to dwell on the negatives.  I do want to thank Macmillans on behalf of...

Fearful of the outcome of an operation

Over the past two months, G has become increasingly breathless.  A scan done at Bart's two weeks ago showed fluid building up again in his chest cavity.  Thanfully things move faster in London than in Birmingham.  So, we have accepted the inconvenience and expense of him having the operation to drain the fluid at the London Chest Hospital.

I have tried so hard not to dwell on what this development might mean, but now that we are packed ready to travel down tomorrow, I am so afraid that we are about...

    Wise words

Don't miss out on the value in this moment by wishing that it had somehow been different. Live it for all that it can be.

Don't let this beautiful day slip uselessly through your fingers while consumed with worry about what tomorrow will bring. Make full use of the time you now have, and that will put you in the best position to face anything that may come.

Whatever your age,  there is something positive and valuable you can do right now. Consider all the beautiful choices that life makes...

    chemo hands and feet

Well folks we are nearly home now.  Done the Italian bit, Pisa, Florence, Siena etc and managed to walk round all of them, but these chemo hands and feet do make life so difficult.  Anybody got any ideas for controlling the sensitivity.  It's all very well the doctor saying it will get worse before it gest better, but that doesn't help when you can't wear shoes, and don't know whether your feet are hot or cold!  I could just about manage 4 hours sightseeing, (with breaks) before we had...

    A quiet day

Claudette spent the day resting in her armchair with her soft cushion watching TV. We reinstated the cookie jar when she said she was hungry.

I attempted to obtain some dressings, padded plasters, for her sores, but the system doesn't appear apple to provide them. Hopefully the district nurse will provide something similar today, if not I'll buy some. This caused sleeping problems overnight, which I suspect resulted in the higher than usual use of the morphine.

    Now feel so guilty

I have just shouted at my daughter and now I feel so guilty......

My mum has terminal ovarian cancer. She is not strong enough for any more chemo, and we have been told that how she is now may be as good as she gets.  Dad is her primary carer, but at 73 is finding it very difficult to cope both emotionally and physically.  They have been married 48 years and she is his sole mate.

Her meds have been upped twice in two days and even now she is still having pain.

Our main problem is that mum has never...

Coping with the loss before its even happened... My Beautiful Grandma

Ive got to a point in my life when yes, I accept death and accept that my elders are going to die, but in my head i had this rosy picture that my Grandma at her ripe old age would just fall asleep when it was time, not suffer or feel any pain, but as always it seems that my heads in the clouds and there never is a right time or a right way to go.

My grandma is a inspiration to me, she has had a humble up bringing, lived and worked hard throughout the war, and my: my she has got loads of tales to...

    Family matters

Hey everyone...I havent blogged for a while but not much has been happening with me so I havent really got alot to write about.  Treatment going well and I'm feeling well so thats great!! I am blogging about an issue which has been playing on my mind for a while.  Its not directly to do with my cancer although its a factor, if I wasnt ill then it probably wouldnt be something we would be considering.  But seeing as I am never going to get better I need to make sure things stay as they are.

    When...
