Just lost my beautiful mum to metastatic vulvar cancer. She had just had radiotherapy to the pelvis and had excruciating back pain. Found out two weeks after radiotherapy

that had spread to pelvis ?.....  pet scan late last year revealed what they thought was inflammation on the lungs. BUT IT ENDED UP BEING CANCER!!   she didn’t stand a chance.  Very mixed emotions at the moment

  • Hi art123

I am so very sorry for the loss of your mum. I know from personal experience what it is like to lose your mum to cancer. The early days are absolute horrid, and you will be going through so many emotions. I hope you have someone at home to support you with this.

You may want to join the bereaved-family-and-friends-forum where there are other people that you can talk to who have also recently lost a loved one.

You can also talk to someone at the macmillan support helpline from 8 am to 8pm 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00

I have very mixed emotions Especially as the fact that the cancer was not picked up on the lungs…

  • When my mum died I was so angry, but I did not actually know who with. Who could I blame? And I didn't actually know what to do with that anger. I don't know why the lung cancer did not show up on the PET scan.  Unfortunately you may never know the answer to that.  It sounds like it all happened very quickly for your mum. That can be quite trumatic. Have you thought about bereavement counselling. You can speak to your GP about this, or you can contact CRUSE about counselling.

I need to find out the answer it’s very important to me how it was missed.

  • Of course it is important to you. I wouldn’t know where to start with finding out.
I wish you all the very best.
