Radiation damage from Vulvar Cancer Treatments

I had a tumor on my urethra in 2012.  I received radiation and chemo for 7 weeks and was ok.  As time has passed, my vulva has become more and more tender.  I had a needle biopsy a couple years ago and was told it came back positive for VIN.  The doctor has told me if I have surgery my skin won't heal.  I bleed for 4 days this past week but it has stopped now.  I couldnt tell exactly where the bleeding was coming from.  My doctor had suggested a month ago to use an over the counter cream called Nutrashield.  I'm concerned the cancer has returned but hope it may be a reaction to the cream.  I'm waiting for the Doctor to get back to me for a follow up appointment.  I would like to hear from those of you who had radiation rather than surgery to remove their vulvar cancer.

  • Hi

I am sorry to hear this. Any unusual bleeding should be checked out asap. Please do contact your GP surgery on Monday as you need to be checked. I know it is not easy to get a doctors appointment these days, but this cannot be left, you may have an infection which will need antibiotics. If over the weekend this bleeding returns, or you start to feel unwell or develop a temperature then call 111 immediately.
