Did anybody use Mepitel film during or after radiotherapy? I had my planning appointment and they had never heard of it but I have seen it recommended somewhere I can’t find now! I am wondering if anyone used it and how they used it. I have two appointments before the weekend and three after so I am wondering if I applied over the weekend and then after treatment was finished if that would work? I have seen that people have used it throughout but at my planning they said no to that!

  • Hi Morsey welcome to the forum. I understood that Mepitel was a dressing for wounds. I got this from my Practice Nurse when I saw them after I developed Radiotherapy Burns. They didnt carry it in the surgery amongst their dressings so she had to prescribe it for me but it is good and really worked.

Im not sure why you would want to use it if it is for wounds? Sorry if that sounds  a bit dense its just that I only know this as a type of dressing.

  • Hi Granny59, I read a post by someone who used the mepitel during radiotherapy, the nurses had applied before the first treatment, and it had prevented any damage to her skin, she said it barely went pink, so it sounded like a good idea to ask about it at my planning appointment. There are instructions on the manufacturers website, for nurses, about applying it for radiotherapy but it doesn’t seem to be something that’s done at the hospital I am going to. In the item I read she also mentioned that some people used it themselves either between or after treatments, I can’t find that post now, so I was wondering if anyone on here had used it and how they had used it. I think one of the main advantages is that it prevents friction and therefore damage and I’ll take any advantage I can get!!
