Hi just wondering if any one experienced high temp on chemo. Twice now I ended up in AE on IV drips fluids and antibiotics and sent home with oral antibiotics im on 3rd round of chemo. Temps ic 38.5
I experienced this issue 9 days after my first chemo. I ended up being hospitalised for 3 days while they got my temperature below 38 with IV antibiotics. Came home with oral antibiotics for 7 days. I had no other symptoms and no cause of infection found. My next session has been delayed by 10 days to allow blood levels to recover. They are fine now so it will go ahead on Monday. But I had a phone call from the hospital two days ago to advise they made a mistake and I should have been prescribed G-CSF injections for after my first chemo. They most probably would have prevented the febrile neutropenia. I don’t know what regime you are on but it might be worth asking about them. I must say I still feel extremely tired even though the fever was 3 weeks ago. Bit nervous about round 2 now.
My temp went the other way. I struggle to stay just above 36 after sessions. I picked up an infection after round 1 despite being on fligristim (sp!) injections. My neutrophil level was 0.26. Diagnosed with acute diverticulitis. 3 days in hospital on IV antibiotics and then sent home with oral antibiotics after neutrophil level hit 1. Injections upped from 5 to 7 days worth. Been ok since but my daily temp ranges from 35.7 to 36.1. Not sure if that's down to low blood pressure as well though.
Are you on injections after each round? Hope it gets easier for you.
It’s not uncommon, unfortunately, as the chemo reduces your white blood cells and your ability to fight infection. I hope the rest of your treatment passes more smoothly.

Its odd how chemo impacts our bodies in different ways. Perhaps your baseline temp is generally lower than 'normal'. Its not something we routinely check, is it? I guess at least they found the cause of your infection. My neutrophils went down to 0.13. I have now been prescribed injections to take for 5 to 7 days after my next session. Pleased to hear the longer course seems to have prevented you from getting another infection. All the best.
