Group update and poll

Hello everyone,

I hope you don’t mind me posting here, I’m Eliza from the Community team.

Firstly, I’d just like to highlight an update to the group – the “Related blogs” section. This is on the right-hand side of discussions, or at the bottom of the page if you’re on a mobile. This is just to help you find content from across the site that you might find interesting or helpful to read. It includes the latest update from 's blog series, “Facing the future: Together.” We should hopefully have another blog post to share in our Community News blog around supporting someone with incurable cancer very soon, so keep an eye on this space.

It’s really important to us that this group is as helpful and supportive a space as possible for all of you. If you have a few moments just now, please consider filling out our quick poll below. This is just to help us find out more about how you feel about the group.

If you have any ideas or thoughts around the group or new features you’d like to see, please let us know either in the comments below, or via email to community@macmillan.org.uk.

Best wishes,

Eliza

I would like to find separate sections in Macmillan for people and carers of who are not seeking treatment so that those deciding to do so do not have to put up with responses telling them how treatment was actually ok

747, I agree, my mum hasn’t had treatment as there’s nothing they can do, it would be beneficial to see how other patients and carers are experiencing/dealing with no treatment.

Wow, sorry i thought the suggestions were anonymous or i would not have mentioned the community member (now redacted). Many many apologies.
But as this is out in the open, I do think that a ‘safe’ group for people who choose not to have treatment, regardless of their reasons not to have treatment, would be good, as it is not because you have no treatment, or are thinking of having no treatment, that you do have neither symptoms nor issues you might want to talk about amongst like minded people.

  • Hi  and ,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I can understand your feelings that you would like a space for talking about supporting those who choose not to have treatment or can no longer receive treatment. We can definitely look into this and take this on board. In the meantime, I wondered whether you'd like to set up a discussion thread in the group for members to talk around choosing not to have treatment? I could then 'pin' this for you, so it would always show up on the first page for the group, if you'd feel this would be helpful?

If you'd prefer to talk in more detail about this or any other ideas you might have privately, please do reach out to the team and I at community@macmillan.org.uk

    Thanks again and best wishes,

    Eliza

Eliza, I feel it would be good to have a group for people not having treatment, I am new on here and I am still fining my way round the groups, but many of the things I have read on here are people having treatment, rather than for whatever reason not having it. I would definitely benefit from speaking to people who are not receiving treatment and sharing my experiences.
