Well, today began with Pat looking a bit off colour. He then said his feet were hurting and sure enough his legs were swollen and red. He is Diabetic and gets Cellulitis but has had a good run lately. It's my call and do I hope it won'rt blow up or ask for a GP call in case we get to the blister stage over the holiday. Asked for a call and our lovely GP was here an hour and a half later.
Whilst we were waiting the Carcinoid symptoms decided to come back and he was sick. Our GP has prescribed...
A few short days ago my life was in turmoil. I was unsure which way was up but i knew i had alot of downs. My mother has terminal cancer(bowel) and over the past year i have seen many changes to the woman i love. I dont know what stage the cancer is at but i expect we are closing in on the last hurdle. Mum sleeps alot and eats very little she is painfully thin and drawn but everyday she fights another battle.
I came upon this site while looking for advice and my god i found you all.it was like coming...
We went to the special treatment centre yesterday. It was a very calm and purpose built unit with a nice day room next to a garden and different rooms where patients were sitting receiving various forms of treatment including Chemo. The staff were pleasant and reassuring. Pat was nervous, as he has been told that the Octreotide injections were painful. There was tea and coffee making equipment and free supplies for relatives in the little kitchen off the day room.
First he was given a test dose...
May I wish everyone here a Very Happy Christmas and New Year.
After my good results over the last few months, and the reduction of my cancer count the onclogist said we could go away for Christmas, (but not fly!!), so we are off on a cruise to celebrate the fact that I've survived another year. When I come back I have a CT scan to see what is happening, but I've got a break from chemo, which I've been on for the whole of this year. Just in time for Christmas.
My Christmas wish to you...
Happy to be home after the 1st 3day inpatient regimen
The chemo went pretty well, and I couldn’t really tell much difference between which bag was in the pump - Cisplatin, Etoposide, Bleomycin, or saline. Only problems were those caused by tramadol from having the stent put in – next time I’ll take something to counteract the side-effects of tramadol. The worst part of chemo I think was being hooked up to the infernal beeping pump 24/7. The best part was the kindness of fellow patients....
Following chemotherapy for secondary breast cancer in my bones, I am in the middle of 4 cycles of Zometa infusions and am suffering quite severe pain in my lower back and hips. The pain is being countered to some extent by pain relief but I am anxious to know if these side effects are common and how long after completion of the treatment are they likely to stop. I am also anaemic which leaves me so weak that I am practically housebound with no energy at all so hope that my condition will quickly...
Hi all,
My name is Paul I am 47yrs old.
For about a year now I have been suffering from a deep aching pain on my lower left side just below the ribcage, pain in my left shoulder and a dull ache down my left arm. I had alot of tests on my bowel and colon etc which showed nothing and was diagnosed with IBS. I have had what was thought to be a chest infection for about 3 months now, been on 3 courses of Antibiotics and Steroids but they didnt touch it.
Two weeks ago whilst on holiday I started to cough...

Have you noticed that a number of celebrities have been recounting their 'battle' with cancer lately? I have to admit that the C word often makes me look up and take notice when it is mentioned in newspaper columns. I would in no way take away the impact that this horrible illness has on people from whatever walk of life they come from but the one thing that never seems to be mentioned is the financial devastation that having this disease can have on people. The impact that a diagnosis has on people...
A Winters Tale
Since early this morning the snow is nearly waist high and is still falling.
The temperature is dropping and is at about 15 degrees F and the north wind is increasing to near gale force.
Mavis has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare.
If it gets much worse, I may have to let her in...
