    Why?????

Why don't they tell you about the effects your left with after having cancer and its treatment?

Its bad enough being told "You have cancer"

Then you get sicker from having chemo. During chemo my veins in one arm corded and collapsed. "Oh great" something else to contend with. Then I get my picc line in, great I thought give my veins a rest they will soon be better. "WRONG"

Have Herceptin finished all my treatment May 2014. Yay I hear you say oh how I wish it was...

    Of tears and turmoil

Another evening at home with my parents. I finished work at 6pm and drove straight home. I am very tired I kept falling asleep at the traffic lights, seems opening the window did not help much.

Home this evening was a challenge. My father seems to much the same as yesterday, asleep with little to say. For some reason I found it more distressing today. In fact brought me to tears which is not really normal for me. I have been crying pretty much all evening - but in a way that only I know. I am...

    Of sleep and dreams
Home yesterday to see my parents. My father is tired. He was asleep for much of the time I went home yesterday evening. I have mixed feelings about this – I guess at least he is not in pain. But it fills me with deep sadness that he is so quiet. I hope he is having good dreams. https://cassiegreen.wordpress.com/2014/11/28/of-sleep-and-dreams/

    Of kneeling and clasping

So, my luxurious time of doubt in the presence of God is over.

I am now praying everyday for his grace and mercy. I am praying for a miracle.

I am praying in a way that I never really prayed before.

I am trusting that God will see us through, that God will see us right.

While I am physically kneeling on the ground and clasping my hands together, mentally I am walking a tight rope. I am trying not to look down but to look up. I am learning to be grateful for every small thing in a way...

  • The new normal
    Of kindness and prayers

One of my trainees called me  to find out how my family was doing.

It was so sweet and kind of her, but for the fact I was sitting at my desk trying to write a report, I would have cried buckets such was my gratitude for this communication. However I suppresed the ocular salty outflow and instead thanked her for her kindness and prayers. It really lifted my sagging spirits.

It is true that in difficulties times, you really find out who your friends are and the people that care about you.

    I have...

    Of stubbornness and mules

My father has always been stubborn. I learnt early on that I would never win a fight with him. Thirty odd years later very little has changed. Except now things are different – now refusal to change his mind has far reaching consequences for him and the rest of the family.

In an attempt to be respectful we have not overridden his wishes but it is heartbreaking and painful to us all.

Maybe I am not being sympathetic enough? After all what would I do if I knew the end was coming sooner than...

  • The new normal
Of straws and backs and camels
Sometimes its the little things that can tip you over the edge… Coming into work after a harrowing weekend, to find my colleague ensconced at my desk, as if I no longer existed. Of course this is my paranoia playing out and a reflection of the hitherto internal distress that I had been feeling but not acknowledging. I wanted to rage at my colleague – “don’t you know things are hard enough as they are, without you acting as if I do not matter and do not exist!” However professionalism...

  • NHL - a journey into the unknown
    Over and out
We got the final results on Friday. We waited for approaching two hours to hear what our future held, it wasn't a good time or a good place to be and I do question why they can't be on time when its results day. Anyway complete metabolic remission was the outcome. We both cried in the corridor and I cried all afternoon. It's worked we're done and I sincerely hope that's it forever Love to you all Helen xx
