Hi, I'm new to this site, but not a stranger to Cancer. I have lost my grandfather, my mum and my dad to Cancer over the years. I am fair skinned, blue eyes, fair haired and a free ride for probably near 100 moles. I'm thinking a maybe a sitting duck, seeing as a mole has appeared a few months back and had grown to the size of the nail on my little finger.... And boy does it itch! Been trying to bury my head in the sand, but I can't ignore it any longer, going to make an appointment with Dr in the...
Another false start on Monday. White blood cells not playing ball again. Two days of self injection and back for another try. Arrived at the hospital at 9am. Being hospitalised again for the chemo due to the adverse effects on my voice last time. Takes a while to get things going. My oncologist is on holiday so it's a nice young lady doctor taking care of me. Finally got the bloods done and we are good to go. First two drugs go through fine. Next up is the Oxaliplatin. Instead of it taking two hours...
Hi all, I am 62 and was diagnosed with high grade dcis about 3 months ago. I am waiting for a date for a mastectomy with diep reconstruction. I am finding the whole process absolutely terrifying. The waiting, no doubt you all know, getting a letter/phone call to see the plastic surgeon then the ct scan then the follow up appointment and now the op.. I can't sleep or think about anything else except this surgery. It is affecting my relationship with my partner, my autistic son and am relying on beta...
If you ever need an absorbent pad I can recommend Tena Lady folded in three. It's worked better than anything from the nurse. I slept right through with no pad leakage even though it was full. Amazing! My stents came out on their own earlier when I changed my bag. I have hospital tomorrow to have the staples out and meet with the nurses. We will be ordering my bags and stuff and I hope to get this leak sorted. Bowels moving still. It does hurt when it moves about but only like bad wind, painful but...
In 1998 Barenaked Ladies sang ‘One Week’ and in that song, the singer referenced that it had been one week (hence the name) that a nameless lady had looked at him. It has been longer than one week since I wrote my last blog post but trying to make, ‘it’s been nine weeks since I wrote a blog post about my cervical cancer because I’ve been busy and stuff,’ is just a little harder to fit into the tune.
Try and pretend I made it fit and hum along. Video link is he...
Hi everyone. I haven't used this before but I am in need of some support. My fiancé is amazing but I just need some "fellow" support. I'm 21 and we had the news last week that my dad has bone cancer. He is final stage kidney failure with only 1 kidney which is functioning at 11%. In 2015 he has bladder cancer. He has spent the last 4 weeks in hospital which they came to the diagnosis that he now has spinal cancer. He has 3 great tumour on the base of his spine. Following another MRI we have found...
I have been pooping for England overnight! Exactly a week after the op and bowels moving with gusto. The wound on my side is still leaking copious amounts of plasma. The District Nurse came again yesterday and changed my dressing. She used a large absorbent one but it still filled up by about nine pm. She had left me a couple of ordinary dressings so I padded one out and that lasted til around four am. She's ringing some time this morning. I have hospital on Tuesday so I guess they will sort it out...
It suddenly appeared to me that when your diagnosed with cancer alsorts of feelings come spinning in your head. The main ones that seem to crop up and ones I too have experienced is “I am I going to die “ I think this is a very common feeling and it probably causes a lot of anxiety among us as cancer patients, and also our families who are worried for your future too. The next one was “why me” for reasons I can’t understand but I experienced is what have I done wrong in life to make me have cancer...
I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in October 2016 and had my tonsils removed following that I had chemo radiotherapy for six weeks following that I had a neck dissection in May this year Since my neck dissection in May. I have been left with rock solid neck which penetrates from underneath my jaw all the way down my neck where the scar line is all the way down to where my Adams apple was in the centre of my throat The effect of the rockhard neck feels like wood under my skin it doesn’t move and...
I came home on Thursday. Everything has been going really well. Well, until last night - that was a bit of a scare. One of the wounds from my surgery last Saturday leaked like a tap late yesterday afternoon! I felt a warm gush at my right side. I looked down and there was a wet patch. I grabbed my kit and went to the bathroom. I thought my urostomy bag had leaked. I removed and replaced the bag. It was the first time I have done it on my own. The dressing on the wound on my right was full of liquid...
