    Acute myeloid leukaemia
My sister aged 28 was diagnosed with AML last tuesday and starter chemo that night. She has just finished her first course of chemo and is returning to hospital friday in preperation for her next dose of chemo. I am going through every feeling you could imagine of shock, disbelief, blame, etc. She is scared of loosing her hair. If any one has been through a simular situation I would love to hear from you

    Traceva treatment
Celia/Everyone First of all thank you very much for your reply. I wonder if i could just ask you a bit more? The consultant told me Tarceva is only sanctioned for second line use in lung cancer. He also says he wonders if my dad is well enough to have the usual 'chemo regime'. As Tarceva seems to be more effective, easily adminstered and with less toxic side effects than traditional chemo, i am at a losss to know why he shouldn't be allowed it, so far as i can see it's down to NICE guidelines and...

    first day after result
Not sure how I'm feeling today. A bit shell shocked I guess. Another waiting game starts until I have surgery and now have to start letting people know. Everyone has been saying how awful it is but what else can they say. Off to work in a bit. Just turning things around and now I'll be off.

hello, this is my first post on this site
Hello Folks My Dad passed away on the 13Th April 2009, he had AML. He was diagnosed last year in March, into remission in August 2009 and the leukaemia returned in Feb this year, he was given 8 weeks at the most and Dad, being Dad managed to prove the doctor's wrong and lasted another week. His funeral was on the 17Th April a day before my first wedding anniversary. I am due to go back to work tomorrow, and I'm a nurse and you would think that the NHS would have some sympathy, however because I...

    Skin cancer kills
Cancer Research UK and the Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network have joined forces to promote a melanoma awareness campaign in our local area http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/healthyliving/sunsmart/skin-cancer-facts/skin-cancer-kills/?a=5441 Whilst it's great to see something being done, I really do feel they have missed the boat here. The campaign is targetting middle-aged men, (statistically more men will die from melanoma than women) whilst this is actually the second most common cancer to...

    Improvement
Wierdly, Clive's eating has now improved again. Last week he was pureeing soup, and this week he is eating pork pie and flapjack. How strange is that? This Taxotere chemo seems to do that and makes it much worse then it gets better again. On this round it has taken a bit longer to get better. I was beginning to think the chemo wasn't doing anything at all. I'm sure even the Oncologists really don't know what is going to happen, as everyone is different, i suppose we should just expect the unexpected...

I have one more question How long after brain surgery do you start radiotherapy? as I can't seem to get hold of the oncology team and I haven't recieved a letter in the post, Tom's surgery was 3 weeks ago this thursday. Wish it would all go away
Hate the world today and wish I could make John's cancer disappear. Has had five cycles of chemo and side effects seem to get worse each time. Is being sick and no appetite, permanently exhausted - sickness much better than it was but still vomiting at least once a day. John cannot tolerate much food either, managing to keep cereal down but not much else. Medics don't seem to be too concerned as John is taking in fluids. It is just so unbearable to see John suffering, has his last cycle of chemo...
