hello, this is my first post on this site

Less than one minute read time.
Hello Folks My Dad passed away on the 13Th April 2009, he had AML. He was diagnosed last year in March, into remission in August 2009 and the leukaemia returned in Feb this year, he was given 8 weeks at the most and Dad, being Dad managed to prove the doctor's wrong and lasted another week. His funeral was on the 17Th April a day before my first wedding anniversary. I am due to go back to work tomorrow, and I'm a nurse and you would think that the NHS would have some sympathy, however because I had time off before my Dad passed so I could spend time with him and my mum and obviously time off now that he has passed my lovely employers are taking me through an absence management policy and I have to promise I will not be off work for the next 6 months!! The caring the profession my a&*e! Anyway that is my rant, and while I am on my soap box, if anyone else tells me that time is a great healer I will scream! Kirsty x

I can empathise with you on the work front as I too work for the caring NHS and have to go for interviews with HR for the next 4 months as after having time off while Bert was going through his chemo I then had the audacity to take a UTI and had to be off for myself, but hey who cares we have more important  stuff to deal with right now, I am so sorry about your dad. do you mind me asking how old he was and if he went into remission with his induction chemo. I know Bert is in remission and don't get me wrong I am delighted. however there is still that niggling doubt at the back of my mind.

    Love Teri x

My Dad was 67 when he passed away, he did acheive remission but it was after his 2nd intensive cycle of chemo, but he was in remission for only 6 months. The docs said it was a very aggressive type of AML and I think they were amazed that he even went into remission in the first place.

I can understand the niggling doubts and every blood test that Dad had were scrutinzed within an inch of their life, specially with me being a nurse, I must have been a nightmare for the staff.

Hope Bert keeps doing well and stays in remission.
