    my turn

in the last 3 years my family has had to tolerate the following.  My mom has had thyroid cancer, my sister has had ovarian cancer, my wife has had breast cancer twice, my father in law has bowel cancer and now I have been told I have cancer of the esophogus... is there something someone is not telling me?  are we just greedy? why us? It ssems that no matter how healthy we live our lives it keeps coming back and attacking another member of our family.  Is this a joke??

    The Widow Vibe: Going 'Spare'

What with digging myself out of the snow to get to work, worrying about the quickly depleting supplies of fuel to keep the various antiquated heating systems fired up, slithering back over the icy roads at lunch time to let The Hounds out, I hadn’t had much time to think about Christmas.

Not that Christmas could be completely forgotten – that would be impossible with all those relentlessly insistent jingle-bells and sparkly intrusions on our consciousness.

    Scattering and a new baby.

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a restful Christmas.

Christmas day went nicely, the kids were amazing and kept me strong with their hyperactivity lol.

I think the expectation of how the day would be was far worse than the reality of it. Yes it was hard with Dad not being there but the day just kind of ticked along, i had my tears first thing and thought ok that is it i have cried now, now i'll enjoy the day with my family.

So today is Dec 27th 2010. Today we are scattering my Dads ashes at...

  • my story so far, scary but happy.
    I almost died part II
I'm doing much better. I'm down to 2 tubes now. An IV, to keep my central line from clotting as only 1 of the 2 tubes are working, and my wound vac. I've learned a little more about my first day here. There's a rumor that I coded after surgery but I haven't seen my chart yet. I know I lost consciousness in the ER because my blood pressure dropped so they had to wait 3 hrs before they could get my bp high enough for surgery. They had to cut out a lot of chest muscle and nerve. Part of my chest is...

    living on

Christmas for some is a very sad time, memories of the past always seem to re appear.  For me my memories are of my children who all died before there time, 1 month, 23 years and 24 years.  And its so sad as this was  time of year they loved the best.  But I would not change a thing, they gave me a new out look on life, taught me how to be a better and stronger person and to give not just take.  They believed in christmas and all that it stands for in both the religious and Father christmas way.  Many happy...

happy christmas and best wishes for 2011

    Hi everyone...

Well christmas is here and new year soon to follow.

i have to thank all the staff at St Georges hospital who operated on me and helped in my recovery. in particular mr hussein the surgeon, saskia my macmillan nurse and jane my plastic dressings nurse.

looking back at the year, it all happened so fast! from going to my GP for a routine bp check and asking to look at a dodgey mole, going to biopsy, biopsy result, surgery and 9 months later full recovery. ok, i got a big war wound...
