    Last Day of Radiotherapy
As I prepared to travel to southampton for the last of my 30 I looked into the mirror to observe what this treatment has done to me. Strangely none of it has been unexpected, and I am sure I have fared better than most due to being relatively young, fit and self disciplined. I have lost so much weight, evident around my saggy turkey neck, my gaunt looking cheekbones and eye sockets adding to the Halloween look of the 'Living Dead'. The redness of my skin to face, neck, throat and shoulder areas has...

  • A Brand New Me
    My Favourite Song

D has been pestering me for a while now to choose my favourite song for a family project he is working on.  So he was very pleased when I told him I'd finally made my selection and I was going to do a blog post about it this morning.

What he doesn't realise is that I'm in a mischievous mood this morning so he is going to have to solve a few clues.

The song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.  It reached the Top 40 in 1965.  The singer was born in 1936 in Harlem, New York.  He was...

  • I need to get it out
    2 more to go

Just Monday and Tuesday to go now, then the fortnight for it to carry on getting worse then it starts to get better. He is holding up so well. I actually think that the evening that spitefull nurse had a go at me sparked him into protect mode and helped him cope better.

  • Getting my head around it
    The clear road ahead

I saw a different oncologist in the clinic today because my usual "Dr Onc" is still away on his Christmas holiday!  I was seen on time and this doctor, a senior assistant specialist, listened to my questions before answering each one clearly so that I could follow and understand.  What a difference!

I am to start on abiraterone supported by zoledronate infusions.  Details of this were explained to me and the reasons for each given clearly.  The oncologist explained why steroid was necessary...

    The Penultimate Day of RT
RT 29 smashed early to leave just one RT sitting left to endure. Am feeling quite well (prob due to constant drip feed of morphine and anti sickness meds). Now having to go through the rigmarole of finding out who is going to top this up once I finish my daily trips to southampton. No one seems to want to take responsibility for this which is frustrating, I am not driving 2 hours + a day just to get a syringe filled and a battery changed when I am supposed to be at home resting and recovering. By...

Boxing Day - Ding Ding; Next Round
Well Christmas has come and gone, and considering no alcohol and no food I really enjoyed being at home with all the family. I have no hangover on a Boxing Day since living memory and am feeling better than the day before so things are looking up. As far as last weeks infection goes I have to admit it knocked me for six, the pain and sickness saw me in a really low place. Cancer had played one of his last cards and knocked me hard off my bike! However Cancer did not realise that I would jump straight...

    Home Again...
Too much sleep during day led to the most restless and uncomfortable night yet. Now gargling mucus in my sleep, to wake with a coughing fit when it gets too much. My mouth now feels as though it has been taken over by aliens dut to the RT and morphine combinations. Constantly been biting inside of cheeks, my tongue and lips as they have been so numb with morphine overnight. Smashed out RT28 which was the toughest most claustrophobic and sickly feeling yet. With two left to go this will not pose a...

    Syringe N Shower Drama...
Slept reasonably well between drip alarms going off, patients going walkabouts and peeing all over themselves and toilet floors. One guy went on a pillow hunt and had six when we all got up this morning. Following meds and a shower and more pain relief I slept solidly all sunday morning, only to be woken by clankering and smell of hospital food (which I cannot have any of). So me roomies are all quietly nibbling away on their offerings while I continue quietly to do nothing. Had a minor drama in...

    Kwik Blog
So another day has passed, slow and steady wins the race. Feelin stable in hospital now but don't reckon I will be able to perform the great escape until Mon, even then I don't miss the travelling so even if it was a release on Tue that would be cool. Lots of broken sleep today (every min asleep is a bonus, pain free joy). No scan tomorrow, then 2 lots of 2 to do (less than 335 zapps which doesn't sound too much, yet with outside of skin burning now, each session is quite painful). ...
