Letter to Onc over waiting till 5th June for Chemo

It just seems that as fast as I get one thing sorted, it all goes wrong again. So copy letter sent to Locum Onc.

    Dear Doctor ???????
First of all thank you for meeting us last week, and being frank with us. Also thank you for putting a number of items in motion for us, it is much appreciated. It also helped Denise's morale. Portocath booked 5th May, thanks.

Unfortunately, the tissue viability did not really work out, as was passed to the district nurses to deal with. Who have yet to provide a...

  • In the Middle
    Greyness

After I was first diagnosed with prostate cancer there was an initial denial, then shock. But now there’s a certain dullness in my life, everything just appears grey and indistinct. There is always something, like my future with cancer, at the back of my mind. This permeates to the surface at regular intervals, and often when I’m least expecting it. The outside world appears far away and not sharp, like a picture which has faded or a photograph out of focus. It does mean that I’m quite easy to please...

Our visit to the Locum Oncologist April

    ·         Hosp wanted to change Dens appointment on 24hrs notice, because New onc does not do Tuesdays, but have seen 3 times before on a Tuesday.

     ·         Told on Monday did not matter chemo already ordered for Wednesday. This is prior to blood test and weight check as chemo is weight related. This has never been pre-ordered before. Plus New Onc admitted on previous visits, that she did not know how to order it.

     ·         Re above, was told Chemo would prob change this time anyway, as...

    Diagnosis...

Sing a song of cell change,

    They multiplied array,

    Four and twenty blackbirds,

    Through my lymph-nodes fly,

    When my chest was opened,

    The birds began to sing,

    Isn't that a dainty dish,

To try to do me in….

I wish we could have simplified the jargon

-my diagnosis was less of a rhyme,

    ER diffuse positive

    PR negative

    Ki-67 15% positive

    HER +++

    Highly differentiated

    Ductal carcinoma

    pT2 pN2a (5/23) MO

    Stage IIIa

It all seems like Greek to me -no wonder we need to share a smile and a little...

    Emotions

still not sure how to work this! I am totally with being in limbo. I have been with my husband for 40 years and I have to shut out all emotions otherwise I couldn't cope. I feel selfish in wanting things to be over but it is hard to watch him. He is carrying on doing as much as he can normally but eating for him is awful. We have friends coming this afternoon but what would have once been a happy lunch will now never be the same again. He is having a stent fitted this week and I fear he is putting...

    Cant get a flipping break

i cant get a flipping break from this dam disease, not one smegging day, i was diagnosed in july 2012, with this oh so treatable disease, oh yes my tumors has dies, even become undetctable to known scans, but my tumor markers which come down during chemo, start rising the minute chemo stops, never below ten, never a day of remission, not even one in nearly three years, even people that have died of this disease get a few months break.

so we thought the when we were called to have surgery to remove...

  • Return of the cat and Mimi's cancer
    CA125 on the rise

Hi guys I had kept away from this site for most of the last 6 months. I guess while it looked like Mimi was in remission, out of sight out of mind.

On Monday we discovered that Mimi's count was on the rise a little. 3 months ago it was down as low as 14 now its 51, not the dizzy heights of the 11000 at the height of her illness but still a little worrying.

Were hoping its just a blip as in all other respects she is in rude health.

So now we are waiting for a scan.

Do any of you know if emotional...

  • Gradually losing my dad
    Early days

My dad rang me early January to say that a "shadow" had been found on his lung after a diabetic nurse saw that he was shaking and she arranged immediate tests for him.  Following this, he said, he had a PET scan.  This did not reveal any cancerous properties in his lungs but showed up a malignant mass in his colon.  Needless to say I was devastated and angry at the same time as he had been through these tests and told me nothing.

I live in South Wales and he is in Yorkshire so I can't just...

    help :'-(

    Hi,
I am on for a rant,
I have had to go part time at my work, I am trying my best for my Mum. My Dad and Mum are still married and live together but my Dads way of coping with things is through humour. I know that is his wayof coping but it is actually upsetting my Mum. I have triend to speak to my Dad but to no avail.
Yesterday I had my Mum out in her wheelchair and I felt as though people were all staring, I wanted to scream obscenities at them and tell them to stop staring. I am an only child and...

  • Helping my husband deal with prostrate cancer.
    Lean on me

There are a lot of things one goes through being diagnosed with cancer. Disbelief, pain, shock, pain and a lot of worry.

So a good stable marriage should be able to cope. And yet, which seems like a moment in time, everything you thought was perfect has been picked up, bended and spilled out in some unrecognisable mess.

We are only in the initial weeks of knowing, and as of yet my husband has not made a decision on the course of treatment. And when you hear the words you can survive this, you think...
