Hi all.Just wondering if any of you ladies that have had mastectomies, have tried any of the lighter weight prosthesis(hope I spelt this right) I got my free NHS silicone one,but am going abroad soon, and feel that I will want a much lighter one, because obviously the heat will be a problem with silicone one, also I have a catalogue with swimming ones in,which I am considering, but would be gratefull to hear from any of you lovely ladies who have tried them.janelou X

    RIP Uncle
Yesterday was my uncle's funeral. He had MS and lived a relatively short but laughter-filled life. Though the funeral was a sad occasion, it really did feel like a celebration of his life. We had a humanist ceremony because my uncle was not religious which meant we organised and led the whole event ourselves. My dad, who has terminal prostate cancer and is very ill himself, did a marvellous job at opening the proceedings and giving a speech about his brother's childhood. Someone else then talked...

Cold Cap to Reduce hair Loss
Hi, I was wondering if any members have used the cold cap system in an attempt to reduce hair loss through chemo. I am 19 days out from my first chemo (FEC100) and have thinning but have not lost any clumps of hair. I am worried about the amount of thinning. I have spoken with several women that have used the cold cap system and all have had some degree of thinning, I just hope mine is in the norm and not usually extreme.....

    Gloves?
Hi, Our daughter, Claire, is about to start chemo today (we hope!), and I know that one possible side effect is extreme sensitivity to the cold. With this mind, please do you have any tips (both what to look out for, and what to avoid) when choosing gloves for her? Thanks Gary ------------------------------ "One step at a time"

    The Journey gets more .......interesting??
Back again - did you miss me? No - I didn't think so ;-( Well, the next part of my journey has been confirmed. I'm to go under the knife on Friday 12th June. A quick radical prostatectomy in my lunch break and, according to my boss, I'll be back at work in no time......yeah, right! Has he any idea? Not a bit. Others in the office are more in tune. They keep popping in to see me, just to make sure I'm OK. It's very nice, but a bit of a distraction. It's when I'm at home - on my own - that the...

    Chemo side effects
Hi all Just wondered if anyone on here has experienced the same as me, had a radical nephrectomy, followed by chemo of Avastin and interferon injections, unfortunately the avastin put my b/p up so i had a hypertensive crises, had to have lumber puncture, had terrible headaches sickness and generally very unwell, was given a blood transfusion and lots of drugs to bring pressure down, but the downside is i had to come off the chemo before it killed me! Had terrible time thinking about my morbidity...

    1st run in with chemo
Hi everybody. Had my 1st bout of chemo last Friday. Saturday felt great, Sunday..... write off!! Early hours on Monday morning was in excruitiating pain from the waist down. Didn't know whether or not to take pain killers until spoke to NHS Direct. Ended going back onto the treatment centre for an assessment. Ultrasound showed that nothing had ruptured or twisted, and with some very strong painkillers was sent back home after 6 hours obs. Those nurses on the unit are absolutely brilliant!!!...
