Hi all.Just wondering if any of you ladies that have had mastectomies, have tried any of the lighter weight prosthesis(hope I spelt this right) I got my free NHS silicone one,but am going abroad soon, and feel that I will want a much lighter one, because obviously the heat will be a problem with silicone one, also I have a catalogue with swimming ones in,which I am considering, but would be gratefull to hear from any of you lovely ladies who have tried them.janelou X

I was given a softie when I left hospital but it doesn't stay put and I find the silicone quite heavy especially while i'm having my radiotherapy, but have met someone who prefers the swimming one more than the silicone, let me know how you get on, I might order one from one of my calalogues,

    hope you doing ok

Hi, just wanted to say that, although I haven't had a mastectomy, I do receive a free magazine called Amoema Life which is published for breast cancer sufferers and it advertises lots of different prostheses and swimwear.  You can register for this magazine yourself.

I hope this is helpful to you.

    Best wishes, Christine

I had a mastectomy 5 years ago and so I've tried quite  a few options.  Whilst I liked the idea of a lighterweight prosthesis, in fact it didn't sit so well for me and I missed the balance of weight with my other breast. I guess this is affected by how big or small you are.  The best thing for me has been a contact prosthesis.  My NHS lady said my wound site wasn't flat enough and it wouldn't work for me but I went down to Amoena in Hampshire and got one that I paid for there so that I could try it and it was wonderful.  Felt really natural to me and I can just about get away with not wearing  a bra sometimes. It does take more time to put on so no good if you are in a hurry in the mornings!

This year I also invested in a swimwear form from Amoena.  Much easier in my swim suit and I don't worry about damaging it as I did a bit with the other rather expensive ones.

As you can tell, I also get the Amoena mag and it is really good; has some very informative articles and deals with issues that you might not see addressed elsewhere. It also has a good range of pocketed bras.

    Anyway, best of luck!

    love, Marly
