    Hospital antics

Went to see the oncologist on Wed and he admitted clive for iv fluids. He had got quite dehydrated and also had a ct scan done . They decided he needed a stent putting in straight away, as he hadn't kept much down since Sunday. They needed to check the tumour wouldn't push on his airway if he had a stent in. They didn't mention anything else they found on the scan, but it showed it was ok to go ahead. Thurs morning they put the stent in and it all went fine. The inside of his food pipe was a bit...

    Update on axillary clearance

Well haven't looked at the site much this week, have been "proper poorly", terrible cough, sound like I smoke 40 a day and very short of breath.  Saw GP this morning and have chest infection, that's a first so on antibiotics, hopefully they will kick in soon. I was supposed to go out for the day yesterday with my friend, but not well enough, just going up the stairs is leaving me breathless, another friend rang and said I sounded like a 90 year old, well feeling like that at the moment...

    Bertiebassett Dec 17th

A week has passed since we got our news that Bert was not to have his Transplant and there was nothing further in the way of curative treatment to be had.

It feels like a month so much has happened. He has spoken to the Mac Nurse at the hospital who in turn referred him to the Hospice Team and they have been out and visited arranged for all sorts of aids to help us in the house, a commode (for later when we might need it)  urine bottles in case he can't get to the toilet,  a wheelchair so we...

    Internship Experiences
This is my fourth and final week as an intern in Macmillan’s policy team and I thought that I would try and give an overview of the work that I have been involved with.
My first experience of a large office environment, it has meant relocating - briefly - from Manchester to London, early mornings and long commutes each day but definitely a rewarding experience – and hopefully I’ve been of some help to the team.
The main focus of my work has been conducting a research project on...

    On a lighter note

I just nipped across to see dad on my lunch break, he was sleeping when I went in so I gently rubbed his arm and said Dad.  He wakened up he wasnt able to say much but he could shake his head yes or no or puff his cheeks out to indicate how tired he is, I managed to get him to take a sip of water, he asked where my Mum was and explained to him I could come over now on my lunchbreak because he is in a room by himself.  His eyes started to roll again so I left him to slepp and have enough energy for...

  • So sudden and unfair
    It all happened last week...

My name is Kay, I'm a 20 year old girl, and my boyfriend died last Wednesday morning.

He has a rare cancer called Metatastic Rhabdosarcoma (excuse the spelling, most probably wrong), which was diagnosed to him September 2008. He started to complain of back pains...when he went to the GP, they sent him away saying that he most likely pulled a muscle due to his job (he was a stockroom assistant in Argos). When they eventually referred him to hospital (5 months later!!), they kept him in for 3 months...

    A short interlude...

    Hi All,

Been off for a few days because, well, been too grumpy. I've been very lucky this year in that my little family have coped really well with the Monty Python jackboot from the sky that landed on us last Xmas. My mood has been on a pretty even keel all year (after the initial shock and a nervy day or two before scan results) but generally we've just got on with things.

I've coped with working full-time doing a job I loved to not working at all - overnight. I've got used to not seeing...

    Its all happened so fast

A month ago I was working. Now that is all I may have left to live.

About six weeks ago I began getting headaches - not all the time and not in any specific area, occasionally accompanied by very brief spells of 'uncertainty'. These spells always happened when standing up. I never even thought that I shouldn't be driving.A month ago at work I was walking along and suddenly didn't know where to put my foot down or what to do next. I looked around, foot still in the air, to see a workmate looking...
